GIS Spatial Analyst Tutorial using John Snow's Cholera Data

12:41
Spatial Analyst Tutorial using John Snow's Cholera Data. This tutorial walks you through the basics of how to create a kernel density surface using ArcGIS Spatial Analyst. To see the cholera data in 3D Analyst / ArcScene, you can watch the 3D Analyst tutorial here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nun95_cQzBg Want to work with the John Snow cholera data yourself? For a similar dataset see: http://www.library.yale.edu/MapColl/files/data/EX_02_Snow_Map.zip

GIS 3D Analyst / ArcScene tutorial with John Snow's 1854 Cholera Data

06:44
This ArcGIS tutorial walks through how to create a 3D surface using ArcScene, 3D Analyst and Spatial Analyst. The example given is using John Snow's famous cholera investigation in SoHo, London. There are multiple sources for the similar data used in this presentation - including data compiled by Robin Wilson which can be found here: http://www.rtwilson.com/downloads/SnowGIS_v2.zip

GIS Spatial Statistics Tutorial using John Snow's Cholera Data: The Standard Deviational Ellipse

07:47
Describes how to analyze the John Snow cholera death data using standard deviational ellipse by month. For a similar, downloadable dataset from Yale University see: http://www.library.yale.edu/MapColl/files/data/EX_02_Snow_Map.zip

Make a Pirate Treasure Map using Microsoft Bing

04:11
Explores some of the fun ways to use and interact with maps, mapping data, and geographic information systems. This example uses Microsoft Research map apps (tech preview) as an example. For GIS'ers, this video demonstrates the flexibility and design elements that are emerging in easy-to-use web mapping applications, and that are easily used and understood by anyone. Applications like these are a great way to introduce students to some of the concepts behind GIS, design and cartography.

GIS Spatial Statistics Tutorial using John Snow's Cholera Data: Using the Collect Events Tool

05:43
Describes how to use the collect events tool in the Spatial Statistics Toolbox. The Collect Events tool lets you create a feature class that calculates overlapping points and represents them with editable graduated symbols. This tool is useful when working with geocoded point datasets.

Animation of tweets during Superstorm Sandy in New York City using ArcGIS 10 and Tracking Analyst

01:19
Using data collected by DensityDesign of Politecnico di Milano, this is an animation of tweets making reference either through a hashtag or free text to Superstorm Sandy. The data was imported into ArcGIS 10 as time-stamped XY data and animated using the ArcGIS Tracking Analyst extension. Each tweet is displayed over a two-hour window - initially as a large circle, fading to a smaller one as time progressed. The histogram at the bottom of the screen shows the volume of tweets over time.

Real-time Twitter Maps of Obama and Romney Tweets

01:44
It's not perfect but it's a nice application to map real-time Twitter feeds based on keywords - also demonstrates a rudimentary heat map by color illustrating the positive or negative emotions associa
