Lesson 30: A Powerful Spreadbetting Trading Strategy

03:55
Alright, so let’s move on to some Trading Strategies. Now what I’ve done is I have focused on one specific strategy and I’m going to explain this in some depth. This is a strategy that I use, I implemented this around ten, eleven years ago and I’m still using it today. It’s a very, very, powerful strategy. Now this is three strategies for joining an intraday trend. Now this is a day trade strategy, and it’s very much designed for jumping on board a really strong move. It doesn’t happen every day, we don’t get these strong moves every day, but when they do, we want to get on board it for a continuation of the move. So let’s look at the four criteria that we have for this strategy Number 1, we want a good drive in one direction on good volume. So, we have got a strong move up, volume is high and its moved a good decent direction, good number of ticks, preferably, taking out some key levels or with a key level acting as a magnet, what do I mean by that? So let’s say we had a resistance level here, we have talked about our resistance level, we breakthrough that, we keep going and its very, very strong, it’s a good drive, its taking out a key level. Or we have a really significant level up here, that it hasn’t quite tagged and that’s acting like a magnet, sucking the price towards it, let’s say that’s a magic level of like a 100 or something let’s say it’s the prior days, high or whatever it may be but something that’s hauling that price towards it. So a nice solid drive, taking out some key levels. Those are the first two criteria.

Futures Spread Trade Setup shows a Calendar Spread setup example, with eurodollar futures. Spread trading reduces systemic risk and margin requirements. Tracking the spread as it hits support and resistance provides setup points. Risk management is important, as the trader can get lulled into a predictable pattern.

How to Build a Pairs Trading Strategy: The Secret To Finding Profit In Pairs Trading

07:51
In this video we discuss pair trading http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/strategies/pairs_trading.html - what is pair trading. If you found value in watching this video, PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE so we can do more! Here’s how it works: When you pair trade stocks, you buy the underperformer, and you sell the outperformer. You are betting on mean reversion. You utilise the pair trading strategy to try extracting money by trading two companies that are in similar industries. As such here you are trading the differential between two instruments as opposed to taking a position in one. This is basically a mean reversion strategy. This trading strategy involves studying how the historic price of one market performs in relation to another, and using this as a cue to identify whether the price of a market will go up or down from its present position, and potentially when. Pairs trading commonly involves taking two stocks from the same industry, like BP and Shell for example. These stocks tend to follow each other, as they’re affected by the same types of economic factors. If you notice that BP is trading at a discount to Shell (relatively speaking), then this provides you with a trading opportunity. If you buy BP stock and sell an equal value of Shell shares you can profit as the shares move back to their historic ‘equilibrium’. Your goal here is to profit from the fact that one stock has become too expensive relative to the other. Aggressive 1 minute FOREX Scalping Strategy ⛏️

05:48
Aggressive 1 minute FOREX scalping strategy. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/course/technical-analysis.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE Actually a hyper-aggresive 1` minute fx scalping strategy utilising stochastics and a trend line. This strategy can be applied to the USD/JPY, GBP/USD (UK Pound/USD), EUR/USD, AUD/USD. The rules of this strategy are simple; you've got an uptrend on a 1 minute chart and you're buying the first oversold condition in the stochastic in that uptrend. You have to bear in mind you have to be very quick here; taking profits out at the first opportunity and you have to adjust your 'take profit' according to the prevalent ATR of the time period. What you are essentially doing is buying pullbacks on a trend on a very short timeframe and you're using the stochastics as a guide to get me in on that pullback. I like using an oscillator as a final filter.

Basic Strategies - Vertical Call Spreads | Trading for Newbies

29:52
Our first basic strategy, the vertical call spread On this episode of Trading For Newbies, Ryan and Beef explain both buying and selling vertical call spreads. A vertical call spread is created by simultaneously buying and selling two different call options at the same time. The action we take (whether we buy or sell) with the front option determines the direction of the trade, whether it's a bullish or bearish trade. A long or short call spread works in exactly the same way as a long or short call option, but the spread has some interesting benefits compared to just buying or selling an option. If you're interested in learning more about calls, make sure to check out our previous lesson on calls. 50 PIPS a Day Forex Trading Strategy 😵

06:11
50 pips a day forex trading strategy. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/course/technical-analysis.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE This forex day trading strategy is all about making 50 pips a day - okay this is not guaranteed in real life but its very systematic; its either making 50 pips or nothing. The theory behind this trading strategy is as follows. We have money flowing round the world with the currency markets 7 days a week; we get the London session, the European, USA session and the Asian session and then they start all over again. The theory of this system is that as any of these sessions open we trade the currency pair that is dominant; so for the London session open we trade the GBP/USD and when the Asian session opens we trade the USD/JPY..etc Its a bit ambigous sometimes what the time of the open is. In this strategy we take the first hour's range of whichever market we're looking at. The theory is I go long when I break above and go short when I break below. This is a very systematic strategy that has potential.

Basic Strategies - Vertical Put Spreads | Trading for Newbies

Understanding Vertical Put Spreads On this episode of Trading For Newbies, Ryan and Beef explain both buying and selling vertical put spreads. How to Set up a Riskless Spread Trade

01:19:22
We get the question fairly often: "If there are so many spreads that offer double digit returns with high probability, why doesn't everyone trade them?" Well, the answer may surprise you. We can find many 7 day, 10 day or 15 day trades that offer double digit returns with an 80% probability of success...but you will likely need a 90% success rate in order to profit long term. This webinar shows why you are likely not making the returns you expected with credit spreads or other spread strategies. More important, we show a simple structure that guarantees you can't lose more than 6% or so on any position, while still being able to take advantage of the benefits of certain spread trades WITHOUT adding any risk! That's right, done in the proper context you can still trade Credit Spreads, Ratio Spreads and other common spread plays without taking on any additional risk. Enjoy!

Credit spreads are very popular among those who trade options for income, as credit spreads can profit in more than one way (making them high probability trades). Additionally, the three credit spread strategies discussed in this video have limited loss potential, which means a losing trade won't break the bank if sized and managed properly. How to Trade Trends and Build a Trend-Based Trading Strategy! 👊

08:17
Trend Trading: How to Build a Trend-Based Trading Strategy. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/academy/Spread-betting-trends.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! Trading the Trend. How to build and trade a trend-following strategy and make money in the process. It makes sense to trade with a trend, in principle. It’s easy to see that the trend continues the current movement, and if you have a trade going then you will continue to make a profit. That’s why traders have the saying “Let the trend be your friend”. But it is not really as simple as seeing a price going up and deciding to get in on that trade. Trends don’t happen straight up, at least very rarely, as they have pullbacks or retracements which can take back some of the gain, or if you trade at the wrong time can hit your stoploss and take you out for a loss almost as soon as you get in. When you’re trading, it often works out better if you keep it very simple. Use simple indicators, don’t look for complicated patterns and features, use just as much complication as you need to determine what you need to know. In this case, you want to know that the trend is in place, which you get from a long moving average, and you want to avoid buying into the market when the price is stretched, as this is the place where you will probably see a pullback. One simple way to check on this is to set a couple of moving averages, say a five period and a twenty period. When they move further away from each other, that is a sign that the market is getting stretched and you have to be careful about entering the market at this time. Some people worry about missing out on a trend, and therefore potentially losing out on profit. You need to take a longer view than that. There’ll always be another trend coming along and you don’t want to trade on something which does not have a good chance of success. The traders’ saying that encapsulates this is “Don’t chase a trend”. On balance, it’s just not worth it to take more risk then you need to. Of course, trends do sometimes stop or even reverse. Usually there’s a reason for this, even though you may not know it or be able to find it out. But Newton’s law of motion, “a body in motion continues in motion unless acted upon by an external force”, also seems to apply to the price movement in a trading chart. With a strong trend, it is fair to assume that it will continue until you see some hesitation in the market forces. So in summary, to keep it simple, you identify a strong trend by taking a long term moving average, say an SMA(200), reinforce this opinion by looking at the SMA(50) or SMA(20) midrange average, and wait for the right time. You can determine the right time by various indicators that we have covered before, or simply look at the SMA(5), see when it pulls back to be close to or crossing the SMA(20), and judge it is the right time to get on the trade before the trend powers back up. Trade Checklist: Ratio Spread | Options Trading Concepts

14:31
A ratio spread is generally a vertical spread where one leg has more contracts than the other. We prefer front-ratio spreads, where we are selling more options than we're buying. This allows us to route the trade for a credit, and is a higher probability trade than the back-spread counterpart. Tune in and let @tastytraderMike walk you through this strategy! Vertical Spread Trading | When to Take Profits & Losses

14:28
When trading vertical spreads, when should you take profits or losses on your position? In this video, I'll discuss general guidelines for using risk/reward to determine appropriate times to take a profit or loss when trading debit or credit spreads. Since vertical spreads have limited profit potential, the decision to take profits is much easier than when you're trading "unlimited" profit potential options strategies such as long calls or long puts. On the other hand, vertical spreads also have limited loss potential, which means there's a point in which taking losses doesn't make sense. - - - - - - - - - - READ THE FULL GUIDE: https://www.projectoption.com/vertical-spreads-explained/ ---- Get REAL Trades: https://www.projectoption.com/trade-alerts-subscription/ Open an Account With tastyworks & Get a Free Course: https://www.projectoption.com/tastyworks/ Our Options Trading Courses: https://www.projectoption.com/options-trading-courses/

Vertical Spread Trading: Implied Volatility & Profitability

10:11
Implied volatility plays a major role in profitability when trading vertical spreads. In this video, you'll learn how changes in implied volatility can help or hurt the performance of the four vertical spread strategies. More specifically, you'll learn why you want implied volatility to decrease when the stock price is moving in favor of your spread, and why you want implied volatility to increase when the stock moves against you. Many options educators teach this concept incorrectly, which is why correctly understanding this topic is so important. - - - - - - - - - - READ THE FULL GUIDE: https://www.projectoption.com/vertical-spreads-explained/ ---- Sign up for our FREE newsletter to receive our options trading research collection: https://www.projectoption.com Premium Options Trading Courses: https://www.projectoption.com/options-trading-courses/

Trading Options With Large Spreads – How To Trade Illiquid Options – Open Interest Strategy

06:36
When it comes to trading options that are illiquid or with large spreads there are some things you need to know. Going after options with large spreads isn’t really an options trading strategy, but is more so a factor you need to watch an take into account for every trade. Large spreads are one of the biggest mistakes people make on almost every trade, an is especially dangerous for day trading strategies, as large spreads kill your gains right when you buy in. A large spread can make you go negative the minute you purchase it. I explain what spreads are an illiquid options and what to take into consideration when trading these options an the pros an cons. The term I did forget to bring up in this video however though is slippage. Slippage is the difference between what you made in terms of profit on the trade, minus what you get filled out and commissions. This video is only 6 minutes long, so there wasn’t too much I could get into, however if you guys want me to go more in depth on large spreads, illiquidity and slippage, just let me know! Also if you are a penny stock trader, these concepts of spread, slippage and liquidity apply the same. This is part of the reason why I said options are like penny stocks, as they have a lot of similar features, large spreads an illiquidity being some of them. All in all though, be careful with options trading in general, as they are not as active as traditional stocks an equities, as a lot of people don’t buy them. This may sound surprising giving all the options trades you see daily, however relative to stocks the amount traded is quite miniscule. I explain this in another video so if you missed it make sure you watch it! Nonetheless, my biggest take home from all this is to always calculate your profits based on the bid. Don’t think you are up because the ask is high or the last trade went through higher than the bid. Be conservative so that you don’t fall into the mistake of making a bad trade or disillusioning yourself to think you are profiting way more than you think. On that same note, when looking to buy, factor in your risk management and plan based on getting filled at the ask price, instead of the bid or last trade. Finally the biggest thing to remember putting all of this together is how the price you pay for the option really determines how much you make. So if you get caught with large spreads and looking to buy, be careful to not overpay as this can greatly cost you. The funny part about options trading is that the same exact option produces a different level of profit for each trader, even if the stock moves up exactly the same, and that is based on how much you pay for the option. Debit Spreads | How to Select Strike Prices (Options Trading Tips)

13:34
With so many strike prices to choose from, how might you select strike prices when trading debit vertical spreads? To recap, two of the four vertical spreads are considered debit spreads because you pay a premium to enter the trade. The two debit spreads are the bull call spread, and bear put spread. In this video, we'll cover two common methods for choosing strike prices when trading debit spreads, as well as compare the pros and cons of each approach. While there's no single "optimal" way to choose strike prices, this video should help guide you towards more strategic strike price selection when buying call or put spreads. - - - - - - - - - - READ THE FULL GUIDE: https://www.projectoption.com/vertical-spreads-explained/ ---- Sign up for our FREE newsletter to receive our options trading research collection: https://www.projectoption.com Premium Options Trading Courses: https://www.projectoption.com/options-trading-courses/

Support and Resistance Trading Strategy: Trading Support and Resistance Levels 📈

07:17
Support and Resistance Trading Strategy. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/course/support-and-resistance.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE! How to Trade with Support and Resistance Levels The last video gave us the first insight into using the support and resistance levels in trading. If you can identify a resistance level, that is a level that the price pushes up to but doesn’t seem to want to go beyond, then you may have found a place where the price will reverse again in the future. If you identify a support level, represented by a horizontal line that the price does not seem to want to go below, again you may take the view that the price will reverse when it comes down to it in the future. Stock market trading support and resistance levels. But the caution is that support and resistance do not hold for ever, and will be broken by a price move at some stage. It’s a matter of taking a view of the trade, and deciding on the likelihood. Many traders will wait until a support or resistance level is broken and then trade for the trend to continue moving further. As a refinement, some traders say that it has to be broken by 3%, or that it has to be broken by a closing price and intermediate moves don’t matter, it’s a matter of personal preference how you trade it. Stock Market Trading: Support Resistance Strategies That Work It is interesting that support and resistance seem to work at all, and that levels are returned to frequently. It is even more interesting that support and resistance seem to be interchangeable, and that one can become the other. You will often see, for example, a price push up through resistance and increase for a while, only to retrace back down to the resistance level which then provides support, starting the price moving upwards again. This concept is more clearly described by looking at the charts and drawing potential support and resistance levels – you will see the price approaching these from either side only to reverse. There is no magic to support and resistance, even though it sometimes seems amazing that it works. The levels are more properly considered as ranges of price, as the reversal point will not be exactly the same each time the support or resistance holds. But the action of these lines is sufficiently strong that many trades are based on them, and traders will take positions with the reasonable expectation that the price will reverse when it gets near to the line. Some people say that support and resistance are psychological barriers, acting on the sentiment of traders. If traders are expecting the price to reverse, then they may take up a trade which tends to make the price reverse, making the barriers self fulfilling. In fact it does not matter to us why support and resistance seem to work so well, because when you’re trading you are only interested in how the market moves so that you can exploit it. Trading is subjective, and requires you to take a view on how the market actually reacts regardless of any reasons behind the price movements. Support and resistance are powerful tools for the trader to use. MACD swing trading strategy for currency pairs. http://www.financial-spread-betting.com/academy/macd-moving-average-convergence-divergence.html PLEASE LIKE AND SHARE THIS VIDEO SO WE CAN DO MORE This is a simple swing trading strategy but you can probably use it on lower time-frames where you have to expect to be pinged out on noise more often than not. MACD is of course short for moving average convergence/divergence. This is a forex trading strategy although you can probably also use it on other markets. We have MACD setup, fast length setup at 12, slow length set at 26 and smoothing set to 9. The theory of this swing trading system is very simple. You trade when you get divergence; if you get a new low in price you are going to go long. I'm of the opinion this strategy needs another layer of criteria into where you place your stop.
