Mobile Phone Tracking and You: Loading location data from your cell phone in Google Maps and ArcMap
This GIS tutorial walks through how to get location data from your cell phone as represented in Google Maps into ArcMap. This tutorial covers the basics of using the KML to Layer tool in the ArcToolBox and an alternate way to load kml data back into ArcMap. I've included a "cleaned" version of the KML file below if you'd like to try and pull the file into ArcGIS yourself. If you do, see if you can figure out the following: 1. Where I stayed on 08/17/2013 2. What I did during the day 3. Where I went in the evening The timestamps will be helpful in making an educated guess. Remember, the data you're working with hasn't been cleaned so there will be errors in the file. When working with the data, think a bit about what this data can tell someone when combined in aggregate over a period of time (even just a week's worth of data can be very informative as to a person's behavioral patterns). From a public health perspective, the monitoring of such information can introduce significant ethical issues for the researcher. For instance, a public health official might be tempted to use such a data collection scheme to try and determine segments of the population most likely to visit clinic locations, but what if that same information was used to target specific populations (say, persons who all happen to visit a place of worship?) Public health officials are more likely to be very sensitive to such issues, but others may not. If you are a public health practitioner (or are in school to become one), consider it part of your duty to inform others as to the challenges that location-based information can introduce to both the research and the general public. A copy of the cleaned CSV file used in the tutorial can be found here: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=07afb38edab347c4ba7d1758f11f0c08 For more on this topic, see: maps.google.com/locationhistory support.google.com/gmm/answer/3118687?hl=en resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//00120000004w000000 Presentation on similar topic:

Signal Processing and Machine Learning Techniques for Sensor Data Analytics
Free MATLAB Trial: https://goo.gl/yXuXnS Request a Quote: https://goo.gl/wNKDSg Contact Us: https://goo.gl/RjJAkE Learn more about MATLAB: https://goo.gl/8QV7ZZ Learn more about Simulink: https://goo.gl/nqnbLe ------------------------------------------------------------------------- An increasing number of applications require the joint use of signal processing and machine learning techniques on time series and sensor data. MATLAB can accelerate the development of data analytics and sensor processing systems by providing a full range of modelling and design capabilities within a single environment. In this webinar we present an example of a classification system able to identify the physical activity that a human subject is engaged in, solely based on the accelerometer signals generated by his or her smartphone. We introduce common signal processing methods in MATLAB (including digital filtering and frequency-domain analysis) that help extract descripting features from raw waveforms, and we show how parallel computing can accelerate the processing of large datasets. We then discuss how to explore and test different classification algorithms (such as decision trees, support vector machines, or neural networks) both programmatically and interactively. Finally, we demonstrate the use of automatic C/C++ code generation from MATLAB to deploy a streaming classification algorithm for embedded sensor analytics.

iPhone Data Recovery from Dead Phone - New Repair Service Launched
A faulty or dead iPhone is a disaster for many people, however losing all the photos and data of your phone without any backup seems to be a even greater disaster. iPhone data recovery thus becomes very important in cell phone repair industry. In this video, we are going to show you how to recover the losing data from a dead phone. The iPhone 6s we are dealing with today is one that turns on with black screen due to damage of logic board. Official conclusion is that the damaged CPU cannot be repaired, nor can data in the phone be backed up. After full analysis of the phone, REWA LAB has found out that the fault is related to AP_TO_LCM_RESET signal of CPU. We can light up the screen with jumper wiring and get the phone temporarily prepared to complete data recovery for iPhone process.Let's check out the video to see how to save phone data even with a dead logic board. PowerSpy: Location Tracking using Mobile Device Power Analysis
Modern mobile platforms like Android enable applications to read aggregate power usage on the phone. This information is considered harmless and reading it requires no user permission or notification. We show that by simply reading the phone’s aggregate power consumption over a period of a few minutes an application can learn information about the user’s location. Aggregate phone power consumption data is extremely noisy due to the multitude of components and applications that simultaneously consume power. Nevertheless, by using machine learning algorithms we are able to successfully infer the phone’s location. We discuss several ways in which this privacy leak can be remedied.

Luc Rocher - bandicoot: a toolbox to analyze mobile phone metadata
PyData London 2016 Bandicoot is a free and open-source toolbox to process mobile phone metadata. It provides standardized and privacy-preserving methods to analyze such datasets, returning more than 160 behavioral indicators. Bandicoot is a complete easy-to-use environment for researchers and developers, allowing them to load their data, perform analysis, and export their results with a few lines of code. The metadata generated at large scale by cellphones and collected by literally every carrier around the world have the potential to fundamentally transform the way we fight diseases, design transportation systems, and do research. Scientists have compared the recent availability of these large-scale behavioral data sets to the invention of the microscope and new fields such as Computational Social Science have recently emerged. Mobile phone metadata have, for example, already been used to study human mobility and behavior in cities, understand the propagation of viruses such as malaria and dengue fever. They have been combined with machine learning algorithms to predict people's age, gender, personality, loan repayments, and crime. Bandicoot is a free and open-source Python toolbox to extract more than 160 features from standard mobile phone metadata. bandicoot focuses on making it easy for researchers and practitioners to load mobile phone data, analyze them, as well as compute and extract robust features from them. Emphasis is put on ease of use, consistency, and documentation. bandicoot has no dependencies and is distributed under the MIT license. bandicoot indicators: individual, spatial, and network features In this talk, we provide an introduction to bandicoot via real life case studies, showing you how to visualise and analyze large scale data sets, or directly metadata from your own phone. MPE+ | Hot Topic | Mobile Device Data in the Big Data World
Big Data is the new norm in today’s world. It is extremely challenging to capture, store, analyze and visualize. Dealing with digital data coming from computers, servers and networks is challenging enough without introducing data from mobile devices. In today's landscape, if you are not already dealing with data from mobile devices, especially smart mobile devices, you are missing much of this "Big Data picture". Electronically stored and transmitted information already begins and ends from a mobile device and will continue to be the same in the future. The total amount of data gathered from mobile devices will exceed that of a personal computer, and some argue it already has. In this webinar, learn how you can collect and analyze data from these smart mobile devices, discuss methods to mine the valuable artifacts hidden and present your case in the Big Data World of today.

Mobile text analysis with Textal
Researchers from the National Centre for Research Methods (NCRM) and the University College London have developed a text analysis iPhone app called Textal. The term text analytics describes a set of linguistic, statistical, and machine learning techniques that model and structure the information content of textual sources for business intelligence, exploratory data analysis, research, or investigation. Textal app allows you to create wordclouds from your favourite text, website, tweet stream, or document. Textal then allows you to interact with the wordcloud, to drill down further and explore the statistics and the relationships between words in the text. Textal project is part of the NCRM and UCL Digital Humanities programmes, and you can find more info in http://www.textal.org/ Filming and editing by João Retorta. Music by Sérgio Faria.
