US Getting Serious About Space Mining

02:55
The US Geological Survey (USGS) is starting to look seriously at “off-Earth” assets as a way to mine resources. The new approach taking by the USGS is seeing to accurately portray how humanity could exploit space mining rather than making estimates on the value of resources in space. Interesting to Know. Mining and production of platinum metals

03:28
High cost of platinum and other platinum group metals can be explained by their high practical value and the costly and complicated production process. Platinum, iridium and palladium can be found in the form of nuggets, albeit very seldom. Osmium, rhodium and ruthenium, on the other hand, are never found in the bowels of the Earth in their pure form. Just like many other metals, platinoids are produced in three stages: ore mining, ore processing and ore refining, which is essentially a chemical purification of the noble metals from other elements.

Asteroid Mining to be Attempted by Planetary Resources

02:16

Planetary Resources announced its plans Tuesday at the Museum of Flight in Seattle, Washington. Based in Bellvue, Washington, the company was founded by Dr. Peter Diamandis and Eric Anderson. Diamandis is best known for founding the X PRIZE Foundation, which offered a ten million dollar prize for the first privately-funded space passenger vehicle. Anderson is also a co-founder of Space Adventures, a commercial spaceflight company. Other notable people involved with the project include film director and deep-sea explorer James Cameron, Google co-founder Larry Page, Google chairman Eric Schmidt, and Ross Perot Jr., son of the former presidential candidate. They also employ former NASA engineers. The company's objective is to "harness resources from passing-by asteroids." They plan to mine precious metals and water specifically from near-earth asteroids. The asteroid belt is not their objective. In the end, they expect to add trillions of dollars to the global GDP, while pushing humanity technologically forward. Water can be used for liquid oxygen and hydrogen, which is currently serves as fuel for space rockets. Much of exorbitant the costs for space travel comes from the need for fuel; historically, rockets must carry enough fuel to not only bring the vehicle outside of the atmosphere, but also enough fuel to compensate for the weight increase of carrying said fuel. However, as there is relatively minimal gravity in space, the energy requirements for vehicles to travel outside of Earth's atmosphere is significantly less. The ability to collect water and refuel in space would change the face of space travel. Diamandis mentioned that aluminum was once a rare metal with a high cost. It was all around us, but people lacked the ability to access it. However, it is now an important metal, used in much of our current technology. The group hopes to be able to do this with other rare metals, such as gold and platinum, which cost over $1600 and $1500 per ounce, respectively. Planetary Resources announced plans to build a series of spacecraft, named "Arkyd." The Arkyd-100 is a low-cost prospecting vehicle, which they say already exists. As it catalogues asteroids with targeted resources, the company will develop the Arkyd-300, robots which will mine the asteroids. Not all near-earth asteroids will have usable resources, former NASA astronaut Dr. Tom Jones noted. President and Chief Engineer Chris Lewicki said he expected the space mining robots could be produced with a price range the single-digit millions, and missions in the two-digit millions. That would be significantly less than current space missions. Diamandis said that the group was aware they could fail, acknowledging it was a high risk operation. However, he believed that with their team, they would succeed.

Anglo American announced the sale of three platinum mines

02:23
Mining giant Anglo American has announced the sale of three platinum mines in South Africa to Sibanye Gold for 4.5 billion rand. Sibanye is the country's biggest gold producer. The sale comes as the platinum industry struggles with falling prices and industrial unrest. Two years ago Amplats wanted to close the mines and announced that 14 thousand jobs could be lost. Government threatened to revoke it's licence. It seems that Sibanye now sees value in buying when the platinum price is low - and waiting for things to turn around. Amplats meanwhile will focus on mechanised mines that weren't as hard hit by last years strike action. The discovery was made in the 1970's beneath a 35-million-year-old asteroid crater, 62 miles across known as Popigai Astroblem Apparently, they decided to keep it secret, and not exploit it, because the Soviet Union's huge diamond operations were already producing immense profits in what was then a tightly controlled world market. Moscow finally pulled back the veil of secrecy by allowing geologists to talk about it with Russian journalists, and according to one news agency, the diamonds are "twice as hard" as the usual gemstones, making them ideal for industrial and scientific uses. These types of diamonds are known as impact diamonds, which result when a meteor plows into a graphite deposit at high velocity. It's estimated that "The resources of super-hard diamonds contained in rocks of the Popigai crypto-explosion structure, are by a factor of ten bigger than the world's all known reserves." It will be interesting to see how this discovery affects the global diamond markets. Will this discovery bring prices down? Also, how amazing are meteors? Even though this discovery appears to be a result of a reaction between a space object and earth, its still a strong reminder just how elementally-rich asteroids can be. Will this spur on a renewed exploration of the minerals in and around crater sites? Even the thought of going straight to the source - like James Cameron and a few others want to do - doesn't sound quite as ridiculous once the imagination's gears start cranking about the possibilities of what could be discovered there.

Did CERN Created Black Hole Inside Earth? City Swallowed, Millions Sinkholes Opened. Hadron Collider

13:43
Did CERN Created Black Hole Inside Earth? City Swallowed, Millions Sinkholes Opened, Ocean Level Drops. Everything you are about to see is real. This is Kryan Channel Most Serious Video. Something never seen before is happening. Millions of giant sinkholes opened around the globe within the past few years. Yes, you heard it right - millions. Some blamed weather, some stated that hollow earth theory is proven, some said that CERN created a mini black hole inside Earth, some blamed aliens from outer space, others demons from hell. I thought its because of excessive fracking and mining and I went to the oil rig to investigate only to be proven wrong because sinkholes seemed to evenly distributed around the world and not concentrate around fracking and mining places. Russian Siberia, Brazilian Jungle, Frozen Antarctica and African Sahara have thousands of new sinkholes open without any fraking or mining there. I talk to the engineer in charge of multi million dollar seabed mining sonar vessel who has PhD is geophysics. He told me that what we are seeing on earth is just the tip of the iceberg, for one sinkhole opening on earth there are at least 4 underwater according to his sonar and this process accelerated geometrically within the last couple of years. I asked him what he thinks causing it. He looked at me and said - the only logical explanation is that CERN created mini Black Hole inside Earth. However, I disagreed with him I have discovered something even scarier than a black hole inside Earth created by CERN. Hold your breath, but first watch how those monsters are decimating our planet. Here is what is happening now. Scientists predicted that ocean level will rise by 2 feet by 2020 comparatively to 1900s because of Global Warming. Instead, we are seeing almost 1 foot drop. We have a grotto in San Francisco beach near Seal Rocks that was only possible to reach during the lowest tide in 1990s without getting wet. I used to wait for the low tide to go there. Now it is assessable during any tide 24/7. Moreover, last month I was able to reach Seal Rocks by feet - it was never possible before. Where all the water gone? The thing is that we live on the aging planet and its core is cooling, shrinking and contracting, forcing magma to retreat deeper, leaving hollow spaces inside the earth crust into the newly formed cracks and reservoirs. The ocean water occupies these newly formed sinkholes and spaces also draining down closer to earth magma, exposing more of the ocean floor. New islands forming in the ocean and more land getting exposed. This island just raised from the ocean in Caribbean within a couple of years and don't even have a name yet. The earth crust also cooling, shrinking and contracting forming new cracks and sinkholes. And this process accelerated in geometrical progression within the last few years. In time all water will be drained from the Earth surface and Earth will be resembling Mars. But before that and very soon, probably within your lifetime, something very dramatic will happen that will create an extinction event similar to the one that happened 250 million years ago. Permian–Triassic extinction. It was the worst in all history because almost 99% of species were lost forever and 99.9% of all earth life went extinct. Life today descended from 1% of the surviving species. As it is today, earth core started to cool down and earth crust cracked like a boiled eggs with trillions gallons of cold ocean water pouring inside newly formed earth cavities and once they reached hot magma - the volcanic magma explosion was so powerful that pieces of the planet were literally thrown to outer space. Possibly, visions some of you including me having of the receded ocean and miles of empty ocean floor exposed are about to come true. All those sinkholes are just the beginning of the end, much bigger fissures are opening at the ocean floor. Once one will be big enough the earth curst will crack again around its ring of fire like a boiled egg. The volcanic magma explosion like hit of 10 mile wide asteroid will create nearly life all on earth following by world earthquake magnitude 12 or higher and 5,000 feet tall tsunami. China's trillion dollar plan to dominate global trade

It's about more than just economics. To learn more, visit https://reconnectingasia.csis.org/map/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO China's Belt and Road Initiative is the most ambitious infrastructure project in modern history. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. Child Slave Labor Powers Your Smartphone - Cobalt Mines in Africa

04:06
Human rights watchdog Amnesty International has accused several tech and auto industry giants of turning a blind eye to child labor. In a damning report released on Tuesday, the organization found that major brands, including Apple, Samsung, Sony, and Volkswagen, were allowing cobalt mined by children into their products. Cobalt — a metallic element that is found mostly in minerals — is a key component in the lithium-ion rechargeable batteries that power electronic devices such as laptops, smartphones, and electric cars. The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), in central Africa, is the world's top cobalt producer, accounting for more than half of the planet's supply. According to the DRC's government, 20 percent of the cobalt exported by country is extracted from mines in the southern province of Katanga. Much of the cobalt mined in the region is sold to Congo Dongfang Mining International (CDM), a company owned by Chinese mineral company Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Company Ltd (Huayou Cobalt), which the Amnesty report describes as one of the world's leading manufacturers of cobalt products. According to Amnesty, the components produced by Huayou Cobalt are then sold on to battery manufacturers in China and South Korea, who, in turn, supply some of the world's top electronics companies. A 2014 report by children's rights agency UNICEF found that approximately 40,000 children worked in mines in southern DRC, and that many of them were involved in the mining of cobalt. 'There is lots of dust, it is very easy to catch colds, and we hurt all over.' Amnesty said its report was researched jointly with DRC-based NGO African Resources Watch (Afrewatch). The report is based on interviews of miners working at four sites in the DRC. As part of their investigation, researchers spoke to 17 children, ages 9 to 17. One child said he started working at the mine when he was 7. Most of the children interviewed by Amnesty worked above ground, collecting ore and sorting through rocks, which they then washed in streams and lakes around the mines. The children described working gruelling, 12-hour shifts in the extreme heat or in the rain, often for no more than 1,000 to 2,000 Congolese Francs ($1-$2) per day. Some of them explained that their school day was bookended with shifts at the mine, and that they also worked weekends and during the holidays. Paul, 14, told researchers he also worked underground in the mines, often spending up to 24 hours at a time in unsafe tunnels. "I arrived in the morning and would leave the following morning," he said. Researchers found that the vast majority of workers in the DRC's mines handle cobalt without wearing any protective gear, such as gloves or facemasks, despite the known dangers of chronic exposure to cobalt dust. The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has warned that extended exposure to cobalt dust can result in "respiratory sensitization, asthma, shortness of breath," as well as dermatitis and a serious condition known as "hard metal lung disease." Amnesty said the children they interviewed complained of frequent illness. "There is lots of dust, it is very easy to catch colds, and we hurt all over," Dany, a 15-year-old miner, told the watchdog. Amnesty also found that many of the underage miners were malnourished and subjected to "physical abuse, sexual exploitation and violence." Many of the children endured regular beatings at the hands of security guards, who also extorted them for a cut of their earnings. "They asked for money, but we didn't have any... They grabbed my friend and pushed her into a tank containing diesel oil," said Mathy, who told researchers she was 12 at the time of the incident. In a response published as an annex to the report, Apple said that underage labor was "never tolerated in our supply chain and we are proud to have led the industry in pioneering new safeguards." The company said that it was "actively looking for any violations." Microsoft said that it did not "tolerate the use of child, involuntary or forced labor" in its supply chain, but added that it was "unable to say with absolute assurance" whether cobalt in its products could be traced back to ore in the Katanga region. Samsung SDI noted that "up until now, there has been no case of child labor violations reported or detected from Samsung's SDI's plants or suppliers." But like Microsoft, the Korean company also said that it could not determine whether its cobalt supplies originated in Katanga. South Africa's Vodacom wants to increase black ownership in line with new law

02:34
South Africa's largest mobile operator, Vodacom, is looking for a new empowerment deal. The company wants to increase black ownership, in line with new economic empowerment rules. A few months ago, the government raised the quota in the ICT sector from 25% to 30%. Vodacom is about 19% black-owned. There's speculation the mobile giant is in talks with the government's investment arm, as Sumitra Nydoo reports.

Chris Hadfield: How looking at 4 billion years of Earth’s history changes you

06:35
What is it like to see humanity from space? Imagine being able to tour our 4 billion-year-old planet 16 times a day, and see a sunset every 45 minutes. Chris Hadfield, the first Canadian astronaut to walk in space, has done just that—and it has opened his eyes and his mind to the idea that, from above, we're not so different at all. Read more at BigThink.com: http://bigthink.com/videos/chris-hadfield-how-space-travel-expands-your-mind Follow Big Think here: YouTube: http://goo.gl/CPTsV5 Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/BigThinkdotcom Twitter: https://twitter.com/bigthink Chris Hadfield: When we are born we have a very small view of the world: our mother’s womb and the delivery room. And, as you’re raised, your parents are probably trying to control the environment that you’re in and so you end up with a very centralized, tiny little view of the world—naturally. As you get older, as you travel more, as you read more, you start to understand a little more of the world around you; and all of those influences affect your choices in life. What are you going to imagine that you could be? If you’ve never left Main Street, small town, Ohio, then you’re probably not going to visualize yourself doing something that is wildly different than that. You’re never going to be the head of a religious sect in Pakistan; it’s not inside your worldview. You can only draw your own aspirations and hopes and decisions based on the things that you even know exist. It’s easier now to understand and see the world than ever in history. Our ability to communicate and our ability to travel has greatly improved. But space travel is sort of like the wildly exaggerated version of that, where you can go around the whole world in the time it takes to eat supper, and see everywhere, see the whole world 16 times a day. That widens and deepens your worldview like nothing we’ve ever seen before in history. And it’s very difficult to maintain artificially drawn biases like nationalistic borders and “my little tribe”, “my little street”, “my little gang”, “my little town”, my little whatever when, 15 minutes later, you’re over at the exact same-looking sort of town—but it’s in Africa, and 40 minutes later the exact same-looking sort of town and it’s in Australia—and then you come up to Indonesia—and you go, “Man, it’s all the same. They build their towns just like we build our towns, and how are they “They” then? It’s just sort of all “Us”. We’re all doing this thing together, and everyone has got the same sort of hopes and dreams amongst themselves. And that pervasive sense of the shared collective experience of being a human being, that seeps into you onboard a spaceship. Not the first time around. The first time is overwhelming, but somewhere, you know, a hundred times around, 500 times around, suddenly the world becomes one place in your mind. It’s not very big, and that I think is a really important worldview to have. Life can be full of magnificent experiences. Being at the wedding of a loved one in a beautiful, big house of worship somewhere where there’s the sound and the beauty and the structure—it affects how you feel that day, and you act a little bit differently. Or walking into a gigantic ancient redwood forest, your head is naturally drawn upwards and you think a little different. It’s not the same as just walking down your street. Imagine what it’s like on a spaceship, where you’re floating weightless at a window, where you see an entire continent in the time it takes to drink a cup of coffee, where you go from L.A. to New York in nine minutes and you see all of that history and culture and climate and geography and geology, and it’s all right there underneath you. And you see a sunrise or a sunset every 45 minutes; you see the world for what it actually is. It has that same sort of personal effect on you, of a feeling of privilege and sort of a reverence, an awe that is pervasive. When we’re floating in the bulging window, the Cupola of the space station—normally it’s just one person because everybody is busy, but if there is two of you in there—you talk in hushed tones to each other just because you feel like you’re just wildly lucky to even be there to see this happening.

Time.com website ke hisab se uske pass 10,000 ton vibranium hai. Aur ek gram vibranium ki kimat $10,000 hai. Jiska matlab uske pass $90.7 trillion ki value ka vibranium hai. Jo isse baki sare marvel characters se sabse amir banati hai. baki sare characters hai lekin koi bhi black panther jitna amir nahi hai. Lekin ye bat dhyan dena vo un paiso se apne life ke maje to leta hi hai. Par vo sare ke sare paise wakanda ke hai na ki black panther ke. Aab aise samjho jaise ki abhi ke taur pe apne real life ke sabse amir insan Jeff Bezos hai. Jinki net worth $100 billion dollars hai aisa ham sab sunte hai. Aur jo ki ye sach bhi hai ye ek self-made #billionaire industrialist hai. Lekin Jeff se bhi amir log duniya me hai. Jaise ki Putin ye secretly apni duniya ka sabse richest insan hai. Lekin isse officially richest kyo consider nahi kiya jata hai. kyoki ye ek politician hai. To samjhe tabhi chaha itne charche me rehte hai. There's hope that the 3-month long strike in the platinum mining sector could be over in a matter of days. The strike has cost the economy at least 20 billion rand in lost wages and revenue so far. Mining companies, Anglo Platinum, Impala Platinum and Lonmin are locked in crucial talks with trade union AMCU over a new settlement package tabled by the employers last week.
