He developed an app called thisisyourdigitallife, and paid about 270,000 people to download it and take a personality test. In the process, all users agreed to have their data collected for academic purposes. Quartz claims that users did not authorize their data to be shared with other companies, especially not for commercial purposes. What’s interesting is that since the time, Facebook’s policy prohibits data sharing from researchers to commercial actors without user consent. What’s more is that this not only collected their users’ data, it also collected all of their friends data, which accumulated data of over 50 million people. And this is what kind of pissed of Facebook. Facebook is not just a social network and an advertiser, they are a data broker too. That means they collect people’s private information within and outside of Facebook to create advertising profiles on them and sell this invaluable information that only Facebook can really collect. Kogan however, managed to get all this Facebook data for free, essentially stealing profit from Facebook. At this time, Republican donor, Robert Mercer, steps in and invests $15 million in Cambridge Analytica. Trump campaign wants to use this data to target American voters and pays $6 million to make that happen. Facebook got even madder because this is something they definitely want campaigners to pay for directly to them. So after they found out about this, Facebook deleted the app and wanted to take action. But they were pushed into the corner because revealing a 50-million strong data leak would definitely cause some huge damage. Companies never talk about breaches of their cyber security. So Facebok decides to bite their tongue and politely asks Cambridge Analytica to delete all user data. Which they didn’t, and Facebook never enforced this. Publicly, Facebook denies everything. They kept lying about the scope of the leak, and Cambridge Analytica added up to the lies by saying they never had Facebook data in the first place. These are all mutually beneficial lies, because everybody seems to have been breaking rules of contracts and even law. Eventually, they threw all the blame on Kogan by saying it was his fault violating Facebook’s policy, and not the company’s fault for holding on to the user data without their consent or actually hiring Kogan to do it in the first place. Using data captured in the course of providing healthcare has never been more important. The shift from fee-for-service to fee-for-value demands that healthcare organizations understand the quality and cost of the care they provide. Data-driven decisions in support of performance improvement has never been more critical. Healthcare organizations must harvest the data from across its portfolio of implemented applications and put it to use – re-purpose it – in pursuit of healthier people at optimal cost. Health care organizations have been building data warehouses of various sorts for a number of years. These initiatives typically start with high hopes for the reporting, measurement and analytics the collected data and associated technology will support. The reality, sadly, often does not meet expectations. Usually, the report or dashboard works just fine, it’s the data that isn’t as expected. Data dictionaries, organizational standards, and pick lists for data entry fields may describe the intent of a particular data field but don’t guarantee that the data captured in the source system actually reflects that intent. Metrics and the analytics supporting performance improvement require consistent, reliable data. To ensure the data landing in a data warehouse –or even in an analytic application– is as expected, an organization needs to profile and evaluate that data prior to moving it. Data profiling is the activity that examines the format and values of data and helps an organization understand exactly the state it’s in. It is the statistical analysis and assessment of the data values in source systems for consistency, uniqueness and logic. Does this seem scary? Depending on the marketer, the information that is in your profile will either make all the difference in the world. Or absolutely none at all. But either way, you're going to win. And here's why. Most social networks require that you create a profile. A basic profile will ask for your age, gender, location, sexual preference, religion, education, and depending on the network, income range, or where you previous and present employer. Marketing empires dominated using less information than this for years. And you and I both know that it doesn't end there. Favorite books, movies, television shows, musical interests, are not only common, they're damn near required. Friends and Family will hound you until you give a complete understanding of who you are in your social network profile. This isn't just a social network profile. This represents a very significant piece of your psychological profile. This is your media consumption profile. The most successful brands are referred to as though they are a real person, or a celebrity. This is not an accident. Every bit of data we enter into our profiles identifies another aspect of our personalities. To become well-established, a brand must have the goal of identifying and resonating with at least one aspect of our personalities. That way, when you have a need to be fulfilled, you look to one brand over another, time and again. When analyzed throughly and thoughtfully, various elements of the individual's personality can be extracted and categorized. Inputting your favorite book into your "interests" on Facebook does more than verify that you're a reader, it provides a glimpse into what holds your attention, entertains you and engages you. For example, do you prefer mystery? Romance? Comedy? Do you prefer classic literature or follow the New York Times bestseller's list? You are telling not just other individuals, but businesses and marketers the best way to capture your interest and connect with you. Brand characters are created as company emissaries in order to bring their large corporate framework down to a personal, human level. If they do their research and can integrate what they find, their message is a bajillion more times likely to stand out in your social streams.
