Hooking Up SAS and Excel - Part 4 - ODS CSV, XML, HTML, MSOffice2k - by Colin Harris - Knoware

14:17
This is the fourth technique in the series on "Hooking up SAS and Excel.", using ODS, or Output Delivery System. If you haven't heard of the output delivery system, you automatically will be using it already, even though you may not be explicitly using it. It is what SAS uses to create the output to go out to PDF file, or to HTML, or to wherever that output is going. We are using ODS statement to explicitly state how we want that output to go, but as I've already said, even if you don't see the word, or use the word ODS, you are automatically using that under the covers. What type of interface is this? It's a SAS push, because SAS is controlling the creation of this data, pushing it out into a file, and it's the data that's being transferred. Not resulting procedure output, but data itself. What's it good for? Simple data transfer. We're talking about going here out to Excel, but CSV files are a common, well really a lowest common denominator for transferring data between different applications. So it could also be good for other things as well as creating Excel spreadsheets. HTML is another output option. http://knoware.co.nz

Logistic Regression Using Excel

07:55
Predict who survives the Titanic disaster using Excel. Logistic regression allows us to predict a categorical outcome using categorical and numeric data. For example, we might want to decide which college alumni will agree to make a donation based on their age, gender, graduation date, and prior history of donating. Or we might want to predict whether or not a loan will default based on credit score, purpose of the loan, geographic location, marital status, and income. Logistic regression will allow us to use the information we have to predict the likelihood of the event we're interested in. Linear Regression helps us answer the question, "What value should we expect?" while logistic regression tells us "How likely is it?" Given a set of inputs, a logistic regression equation will return a value between 0 and 1, representing the probability that the event will occur. Based on that probability, we might then choose to either take or not take a particular action. For example, we might decide that if the likelihood that an alumni will donate is below 5%, then we're not going to ask them for a donation. Or if the probability of default on a loan is above 20%, then we might refuse to issue a loan or offer it at a higher interest rate. How we choose the cutoff depends on a cost-benefit analysis. For example, even if there is only a 10% chance of an alumni donating, but the call only takes two minutes and the average donation is 100 dollars, it is probably worthwhile to call.

cluster analysis motivation theory practical application

02:40
About the course - Cluster analysis is one of the most popular techniques used in data mining for marketing needs. The idea behind cluster analysis is to find natural groups within data in such a way that each element in the group is as similar to each other as possible. At the same time, the groups are as dissimilar to other groups as possible. Course materials - The course contains video presentations (power point presentations with voice), pdf, excel work book and sas codes. Course duration - The course should take roughly 10 hours to understand and internalize the concepts. Course Structure (contents) The structure of the course is as follows. Part 01 - cluster analysis theory and workout using SAS ------------------------------ Motivation – Where one applies cluster analysis. Why one should learn cluster analysis? How it is different from objective segmentation (CHAID / CART ) Statistical foundation and practical application: Understand Different type of cluster analysis Cluster Analysis – high level view Hierarchical clustering – Agglomerative or Divisive technique Dendogram – What it is? What does it show? Scree plot - How to decide about number of clusters How to use SAS command to run hierarchical clustering When and why does on need to standardize the data? How to understand and interpret the output Non-hierarchical clustering (K means clustering). Why do we need k means approach How does it work? How does it iterate? How does it decide about combining old clusters? How to use SAS command to run hierarchical clustering When and why does on need to standardize the data? How to understand and interpret the output Part 02 --------------------- Learn R syntax for hierarchical and non hierarchical clustering Part 03 ------------------ Cluster analysis in data mining scenario Part 04 ---------------- Assignment on cluster analysis Who is the target audience? statistics and analytics professionals / students

How to Use SPSS - Lesson 1 - The SPSS Environment and Variable Properties

11:12
Bitcoin donations are welcome: 1GGV3gbJeA83FWmz9hDfPri8EuqcUtodXy Mike's SPSS Tutorials Lesson 1 This video series is intended to help you learn how to analyze data using SPSS for your statistical needs. Lesson 1 introduces the SPSS window, it's various environments and what each environment does. I also provide basic guidance on how to create a data set by making a new variable with specified properties and how to enter it's data. Finally, I provide some simple rules to insuring a clean data set so that future analyses can be run cleanly and without difficulty. Helpful Notes: 1. SPSS differs from other statistical software such as SAS in that it is menu driven. You could also create SPSS programs through coding, but the strength of SPSS lies in it's easy-to-use menu system for analysis. 2. Here are the three primary "environments" that SPSS uses: A. OUTPUT WINDOW: where output is shown in tree structure with it's corresponding SPSS code B. Data Editor Window, DATA VIEW: the spreadsheet environment for your data to easily see and manipulate data on the fly C. Data Editor Window, VARIABLE VIEW: the listing environment for your data sets variables to quickly check and edit the properties of each variable or to create new variables easily 3. Using self-descriptive variable names, specifying the variable type, width and precision, as well as adding labels, and a scale of measurement can make sure that your variables remain easy to read and free from errors in the future.

This programming language turned into named r, based on the first letter of first name of the 2 r authors (robert gentleman and ross ihaka), and in part a play on the call of the bell labs language s. This educational is designed for software programmers, statisticians and information miners who're searching forward for growing statistical software program using r programming. If you are attempting to apprehend the r programming language as a newbie, this tutorial will come up with enough know-how on almost all the standards of the language from where you can take yourself to better tiers of understanding. Earlier than intending with this tutorial, you must have a basic knowledge of computer programming terminologies. A fundamental information of any of the programming languages will assist you in knowledge the r programming standards and flow rapid at the getting to know song. r programming tutorial, r programming tutorial pdf, r programming tutorial free, r programming tutorial for beginners pdf, r (programming language), r programming tutorial - 1, r programming tutorial online, data mining (software genre), data analysis (media genre), r programming tutorial for beginners, free r programming tutorials -~-~~-~~~-~~-~- Please watch: "7 Learn R programming Language, R operators,Logical, Assignment and Miscellaneous Operators" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReYc5QiOYEk -~-~~-~~~-~~-~-

Steve Gallant at BDF 2015 | "Using Free Text for Predictive Modeling"

29:28
Abstract: This is an introductory overview of how to efficiently represent text (and images) for predictive analytics. Applications include Sentiment Analysis, classifying news stories or emails, building marketing models (acquisition, churn), and anomaly detection. The key technique is how to transform text (of varying length), as well as sentence or document structure, into a single, distributed, fixed-length vector. For example, we may want to change each news story into a list of exactly 500 numbers. The main reason to make this transformation is to enable machine learning approaches — which require fixed-length vectors — to construct predictive models. (Neural networks provide a motivation for this work.)We’ll see a live demonstration classifying news stories over the web. Bio: Steve Gallant, Ph.D. has over 40 publications, 3 patents issued and 2 pending, and a book on Neural Network Learning (MIT Press). His degrees are from MIT (Math) and Stanford (Ph.D. in Operations Research), and he was Associate Professor of Computer Science at Northeastern. Currently, he leads R&D at MultiModel Research, which he founded. MultiModel focuses upon text representations and machine learning. Applications include detecting news stories that will move stock prices, multi-label classification (assigning category labels to news stories) and Sentiment Analysis. Work at MultiModel is supported by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
