Dog comatose on roadside makes amazing recovery

03:02
A dog lay in a coma by the side of a busy road, completely unresponsive. We gently lifted him and rushed him to Animal Aid. We examined him from head to toe but found no sign of broken bones and suspected a head injury, so we treated him with a medicine that reduces brain swelling. He didn't awaken for 24 hours. And by the third day he---well, watch and see for yourself what Roxy's pure radiant joy looks like today. Adele Song Wakes Up a Coma Patient

01:17
Adele Song Wakes Up a Coma Patient - as part of the news series by GeoBeats. With a soulful voice, Adele is widely considered to be among the world's best singers. But who knew an Adele song could be powerful enough to bring someone out of a coma? A 7 year old child, Charlotte, encountered a brain hemorrhage in her sleep, after an easy going night of watching movies with her family. The young girl went into a coma and doctors were very close to losing hope. But when Adele's song 'Rolling in the Deep' came on the radio and Charlotte's mother began singing the tune to her, amazingly Charlotte began smiling and then two days later started speaking. She is now recovering at home. In a similar unexpected recovery, Lori Smith, a married mom of 4, went into a coma minutes after giving birth to her youngest child. Dubbed, the 'miracle mom', she was in a coma for 56 days and was just about to be taken off of life support when her daughter said 'Mom, if you love us and you hear us, move your eyes.' which is exactly what Lori did and against all odds, is now home with her family.

Miraculous moment father hugged son after teenager woke from 4 month COMA following bike crash

03:42
This is the moment a 16-year-old left in a coma after being knocked off his bike, woke up after four months, spoke for the time and hugged his father, who had been by his hospital bed every day. Ryan Smith was badly hurt as he cycled to work in Lincolnshire and was not wearing a helmet because he did not want to mess up his hair. The teenager, who doctors say requires years of rehabilitation, has remained in hospital ever since the accident near the seaside village of Chapel St Leonards on July 22. His father Mark, 44, released heartbreaking pictures at the time of the collision of him cradling his brain-damaged son as he lay in a coma. He has spent every day by Ryan's bed after being told his son might not survive. Ryan's plight even touched Match of the Day pundit John Hartson who travelled to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston, Lincolnshire, from London to offer his support. On Friday his family were overjoyed as Ryan opened his eyes and uttered the words 'Hello, Mum and Dad'. His sister Rachael, 21, captured the touching moment Ryan was able to put his arms around his delighted father to give him the 'best hug he'd ever had.' Paramedic Mark described the incredible moment Ryan woke from his coma to embrace him for the first time in months. He said: 'It was an unbelievable moment - which is so hard to put into words. 'To go from being told he might not survive to holding him in my arms was just a moment I will cherish forever. 'It was the best hug I'd ever had, it felt incredible. 'I asked him to say hello and he took a deep breath and said hello back. 'After jumping around for ten minutes I composed myself and thought I'd push my luck and ask him to say dad, and he did. 'Then mum asked for a mum and he went and said mum. 'I have not felt so happy for so long - Ryan is a miracle. 'It was amazing, he has movement on his right side now too, his right arm, his right leg, his vision is good, his hearing if fine but there is a long way to go. 'He is showing true grit and determination and is very brave.' Ryan will now undergo six months of rehabilitation at The Children's Trust unit in Tadworth, Surrey. Mark, mother Julie, 46, and sisters Rachael and five-year-old Charlie May are hoping that within that time Ryan will be able to walk out of the hospital. The family are now campaigning for a law to force cyclists to wear helmets after Ryan didn't wear one because of his quiff. Mr Smith added: 'Next for Ryan is rehab and hopefully after that we can bring him home. 'We are all hoping that when he does finally come home he will be walking, but as I said there is a long way to go for Ryan yet. 'I just want everyone to know that they should be lit up when riding a bike, especially during these winter months as it is getting darker. 'I can make my four-year-old wear a helmet but it is harder to tell an image conscious teenager what to do. 'This needs to go to Parliament straight away but people have no excuse not to go and buy a helmet.' Cycle helmets are not compulsory in Britain. Olympic champion and Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins has also backed calls for legislation to force cyclists to wear them on roads. Inspirational footage shows 'miracle' teen coma patient awake after four months

01:14
Subscribe to ITN News: http://bit.ly/itnytsub A teenage coma patient has defied the odds and woken up after four months spent unconscious in hospital. Ryan Smith, who had ignored his dad's plea to wear a helmet because he did not want to mess up his hair, was hit by a van while riding to his summer job in July. His devastated family feared he might never wake up - but the plucky youngster has not only opened his eyes, but is out of bed and undergoing intensive physiotherapy to recover his muscle control. He has even managed to speak his first words in months, saying "hello", "dad" and "mum". His father Mark Smith, a paramedic, said hearing his son speak again had finally shown him "what it was like to cry with joy". Report by Charlotte Cross. Bell's Palsy - Facial Nerve palsy

01:29
Bell’s palsy is a benign inflammatory disease of unknown etiology, which results from compression or inflammation of the facial nerve. It may occur following exposure to cold or a viral infection (herpes simplex and varicella zoster) and is generally associated with edema, entrapment, and ischemia of the facial nerve within the narrow bony canal. This condition, which accounts for about 80% of all cases of facial palsy, may accompany otitis media, mastoiditis, and petrositis and may occur in diabetic patients and pregnant woman. Despite the benign nature of the disease, signifcant anxiety is endured by patients due to the fear of stroke or permanent facial disfgurement. Patients exhibit abrupt or progressive unilateral weakness of the facial muscles (facial asymmetry, depression of the angle of mouth), which may be preceded or accompanied by earache. Glandular secretion, stapedius muscle function, and taste sensation often remain unaffected. Epiphora (excessive tearing) due to ectropion and lagophthalmos (inability to close the eye completely) due to weakness of the orbicularis oculi muscle also occur. The latter can also be seen in comatose patients and individuals with blepharoplasty. The oculoauricular reflex, which is characterized by posterior movement of the ear when the patient directs his/her gaze as far laterally as possible, is lost in Bell’s palsy. Patients may exhibit Bell’s phenomenon, in which the eye turns upward and outward without accompanying eyelid closure. Recurrence is seen in approximately 10% of Bell’s palsy patients. Unilateral recurrent facial palsy,

Welcome to the World of Naadi Yoga where you get 100% Natural Cure. Naadi Yoga is one of the alternative medicine.Fully dependent on Scientific phenomenons. Naadi Yoga treats the person as a whole rather than treading an illness of the patient in isolation. God has made the human body & kept all necessary requirement of the body in itself. It also highly depends upon faith and regularity of the patients. Nadis, like nerves and tendons, are not visible to the naked eye. They are subtle energy lines running throughout the entire body. There are thousands of Nadis in the body, however, only three play a particularly important role: sushumna, ida, and pingala. Sushumna is the central channel and corresponds to the physical spinal column. Ida and pingala start in the base of the column. Ida is associated with the left side and finishes at the left nostril. Pingala is associated with the right side and finishes at the right nostril. Normally the energy flows in both sides alternately. The goal of many paranayama practices is to allow the pranic energy to go upwards through sushumna, which provides a higher state of consciousness Our body contains 72,000 Naadis that channel oxygen to every cell. Some are wide and rushing; others are a minute in nature. When this system flows freely, we are active and healthy; when it becomes weak or congested, we struggle with poor mental and physical health. __ Coma patient treatment by Dr Ashish Gilhotra from Dehradun, Naadi Yoga (by Dr. Ashish Gilhotra) Visit us: 6 Race Course, Dehra Dun, 248001, Uttarakhand, India. Family Wants To Keep Life Support For Girl Brain Dead After Tonsillectomy Surgery

01:27
Who gets to decide when to end life support when a person is brain dead? The mother of 13-year-old Jahi McMath, who was declared brain dead Thursday, three days after undergoing surgery to remove her tonsils, said Tuesday that the family should make the call. "I don't want her off life support because I really feel like she can wake up," Nailah Winkfield told CNN's Piers Morgan. "I feel like it's just been a rough week for her and, if they just give her some more time, then she'll be able to wake up." Jahi's family has presented Children's Hospital & Research Center in Oakland, California, with a cease-and-desist letter aimed at preventing the hospital from taking her off a ventilator, attorney Christopher B. Dolan said Tuesday. "If the hospital wants to terminate Jahi's life, they should go to court and get a judge to authorize that, not pressure a parent into signing a document in the middle of the night or telling them at 8:30 tomorrow morning your child will be (dead)," he told CNN. Doctors had recommended the tonsillectomy to treat Jahi's sleep apnea, weight gain, inability to concentrate, short attention span and uncontrolled urination, her uncle Omari Sealey told CNN on Monday in a telephone interview. "They said that she would have more energy, focus more, lose weight, and the urinating would stop," he said. The surgery, which occurred December 9, initially appeared to have gone well, said Sandy Chatman, Jahi's grandmother who is herself a nurse and saw the girl in the recovery room. "She was alert and talking, and she was asking for a Popsicle because she said her throat hurt," Chatman said. But Jahi was then moved to the intensive-care unit, and her relatives were denied access to the eighth-grader for 30 minutes; when they finally were allowed to see her, they knew something was wrong. "Upon entry, they saw that there was way too much blood," Chatman said. "We kept asking, 'Is this normal?'" Sealey said. "Some nurses said, 'I don't know,' and some said, 'Yes.' There was a lot of uncertainty and a lack of urgency." Sealey said that when Chatman noticed that her granddaughter's oxygen levels were dangerously low, she called for help. But Jahi went into cardiac arrest. The medical staff performed chest compressions to revive her and gave her clotting medications, but nothing worked. On Tuesday, a CT scan revealed that two-thirds of Jahi's brain was swollen. Sealey said that Jahi's brain had been deprived of oxygen. "Now she is 100% brain damaged," he said. "Medically dead." CNN could not independently confirm Sealey's account. When asked about the case, hospital spokeswoman Melinda Krigel cited privacy laws. A statement from the hospital's chief of pediatrics, Dr. David Durand, read: "Our hearts go out to this patient and her family. Unfortunately, we have not been authorized by the family to share information with the public about this matter. Consequently, we are not able to correct misperceptions created about this sad situation. "Nonetheless, we want to assure the community that we are doing everything in our capacity to provide support to the grieving family. We have been caring for children in this community for over 100 years and have a longstanding commitment to delivering the highest quality care for all." Dr. Lisa Thebner, a pediatrician in private practice in New York who was not involved in the case, said excessive bleeding -- though rare -- is not unheard of in such operations, given that the tonsils are removed from the back of the throat, an area rich in blood vessels. Still, she said, "This was a highly unusual complication." When told that his niece was brain dead, Sealey said the entire family went into "complete devastation." "We pray over her daily," Sealey said. "We kiss her. I charge her iPod and make sure it is in her ears every night when I sleep next to her." But he said he had accepted that she was legally dead. An official from the Oakland coroner's office told CNN that Jahi's death was reported Thursday to the office. "Once a death is reported to us, we have a duty and responsibility to immediately proceed to where the body lies, examine the body, make identification, make inquiry into the circumstances, manner, and means of death, and, as circumstances warrant, either order its removal for further investigation or disposition, or release the body to the next of kin," the official said, quoting California law. Sealey said that though the family hoped to keep Jahi on life support, hospital representatives had told them Monday that would not be an option. That has left the coroner's office in a delicate position. "Technically, we can go where the body lies and we can begin our investigation as to the causes of death," the official from the coroner's office said. "We have been gracious and we have allowed the parents and the hospital to maintain the child on life support."

A hospital in New Brunswick, New Jersey deported a reportedly unconscious man back to Poland shortly after he'd suffered a debilitating stroke. The man had been living in the US illegally for 30 years, but the hospital is said to have made the decision based on the man's lack of health insurance. The little known practice that allowed them to do so is called "medical repatriation". The hospital is required to stabilize the patients falling under this umbrella, but that's it. The decision to deport patients can be unilateral and no involvement from US Immigration and Customs Enforcement is required. What is necessary is consent from either the patient, their family, or a court-appointed guardian. All involved, other than the hospital, say this didn't happen. The consulate said they were trying to arrange a court appointed guardian when the man, who is estranged from his daughters in Poland, was deported. Regardless, the man now lies in a hospital bed in Poland. He has since regained consciousness but remains unable to speak and communicate with his caregivers.

Weight loss pills paralyze woman, doctors prosecuted

01:26
A 31-year old Indonesian woman in Taipei fell into a coma in 2010 after reportedly taking weight-loss pills over almost five years. The cause of her coma was reportedly hypolakemia which led to her sudden collapse one night after dinner. Two doctors, Liu Quan Neng (劉全能) and Chen Yan Hua (陳燕華) now face charges of negligence after prosecutors determined the woman's medication was prescribed without a thorough examination. The defendants could face three years in prison. The woman is currently being cared for in Indonesia, and the two doctors remain on post. The New Taipei Health Department is keeping track of the case. -------------------------------------------------------- TomoNews is your daily source for top animated news. Technology: Intubation Mouthguard

01:02
The US Army has developed a patent-pending intubation mouthguard that protects facial tissue compromised by burns or other injury. The Army device also provides improved protection of a patient’s teeth by shifting the load from vulnerable incisors to the more robust molars. The standard of care for securing endotracheal tubes in burn patients has changed little in the last twenty years: A semi-rigid bite block is tied to the tube with cotton twills, which are then tied around the patient’s head to prevent accidental dislodgement. Despite the recent introduction of silicon gel sheets, the corners of the patient’s mouth can suffer significant trauma due to rubbing on the ties. The large IV volumes used in burn treatment causes tissue to swell and exacerbates the problem, which can lead to additional medical issues and scarring. Additionally, tooth loss often results from prolonged clamping of the patient’s jaws that causes incisors to erupt out of the jaw. This technology is available for licensing. His owners allegedly left him inside their vehicle while they went inside a Home Depot to shoplift. The tiny puppy was found by police in a locked truck, lying on the passenger side's floorboard. He was barely breathing and seemingly comatose, Carrollton Police Department spokeswoman Jolene DeVito told InsideEdition.com Wednesday.

OW P.U.P. Area Rep. Takes the Stand to Testifies in a Civil Suit Brought Against Him

02:55
For the latest news across Belize, visit: http://edition.channel5belize.com/ Orange Walk South P.U.P. Area Representative Jose Abelardo Mai took the stand for a cross-examination in a civil suit brought against him by Nissan Arana, the son of a Julia Arana who Mai knocked down on April first, 2016. Julia was crossing the Phillip Goldson Highway in Trial Farm Village when Mai collided into her with his vehicle. While Julia suffered severe head and body injuries, she did not die at the scene. She was left comatose at the K.H.M.H. She was released after medical professionals recorded improvements, but two months after the incident she died. A post-mortem examination determined that Arana’s death was due to ‘acute cardio-respiratory failure and severe bilateral broncho-pneumonia.’ The results of the post-mortem caused police to not criminally charge Mai who freely provided a urine sample. In court, Mai asserts that he was not speeding and that Julia ran across the highway in front of his vehicle. The family, however, believes otherwise and says that her death is directly linked to the incident. The Arana family is seeking financial compensation for her death itself and all expenses related to the accident. Their attorney, Sheena Pitts, spoke today after three days of hearings.

Waking Up From a Coma - 16 Years Later

05:45
16 years after waking up from a coma, Jason Deierlein wants young people to understand how important it is to take life seriously and be good to their bodies while they can. As a traumatic brain injury survivor, Jason want kids in school to realize that having a strong body and mind is vital. Being mentally and physically strong is what enabled Jason to eventually regain his senses as he was coming out of his car accident related coma. Jason's message to all is that we should appreciate out strengths while we have them. One never knows what tomorrow holds. Being of sound mind, body, and soul can help us when tragedy strikes and also help us as life throws us trials. "I got "back into life" after years of painful physical therapy. I got back my sight, learned how to walk & move again, and to speak again. I've recovered from the physical pain of the tragedy. THE MENTAL ANGUISH I conquer daily by ALWAYS remembering gratitude for life & keeping a positive perspective! I overcame tragedy & that's why I created http://MyPositivePerspective.com - to give others a place to share their life-changing stories with the world, too; and especially to motivate kids to take care of themselves so WHEN / IF a traumatic injury occurs, they will be prepared to overcome it and make the most of the life they are gives." - Jason Deierlein Music by Ben Fagan
