Cowal gold mine - 7% head grade increase from blast movement monitoring
The main challenge for grade control geologists is to maintain grades through the mill. Dilution and ore loss are the major factors in this and we utilize blast monitors to eliminate them. Without blast movement monitors ore will end up on the waste dump and waste will end up in the mill, which will cost your business a lot of money. Our studies at Cowal show that blast monitoring has delivered a 7% increase in our mill head grade on a yearly basis. You can simulate things as much as you want on the computer screen but once you see the movement in real time and then see how much money you can save by monitoring your high grade correctly, you become a true believer.

RC ADVENTURES - GOLD Mining Trommel - Separating the Pay Dirt - 1/12 Scale
Click to Subscribe! ► http://bit.ly/JOovvU - The trommel is fired up, and the crew is ready for a long shift. We are still trying to decide on a name for this monster machine. It is quite windy today, but that wont stop the crew from having an epic day on the mine. The ground is finally thawing, and we are able to get our first few buckets through the pay dirt separator. Our Mining truck is collecting the pay dirt close to where the wash plant will be mounted. The Trommel was originally built by Mike, aka "MAV",(https://www.youtube.com/MadAddVent) in early 2014. He did an amazing job visualizing and fabricating this powerful machine. The whole thing runs on 12v, and is very impressive in person. Our first runs were successful, but like in any mining company.. the machine takes a beating and could use a few turns of the wrench. After a year with it, and a few tweaks, the machine is back up on the run.. and what a better way to unveil it again then with a great video! Now we are once again able to mine and filter Good Pay Dirt, from the Debris - soon I will set up the wash plant. The Tonka Conversion was done by fellow RC enthusiast Judd Phillips, also known as JRPRC (https://www.youtube.com/user/juddphillips) He has a complete playlist on how to convert your very own Tonka Dump truck into an RC. He also has other helpful playlists on how to convert Non-RC construction toys in to Moving Machines you can have fun with! We are awaiting our loader fixed up and tweaked out by YouTuber "DiggingwithMartin" (http://www.youtube.com/diggingwithmartin) When it arrives we will be start moving some serious scale yardage. Underground Mine Portal Entrance - Weeping Water, NE
Omaha, Nebraska is the largest city in Nebraska with a population of over 400,000 people. A growing city the size of Omaha needs crushed stone and gravel to build the roads, sidewalks and foundations on which the people depend. Weeping Water, NE is a small town just 20 miles southwest of Omaha that supplies most of the rock for the Omaha market. Limestone mining operations have been in existence for nearly 100 years in this small town. A normal limestone operation is usually done in an open pit after the overburden has been taken off, but not in Southeast Nebraska. In this part of the country there is over 100' of corn growing dirt on top of the limestone. To add to the problem there is another 110' of non usable rock on top of the Kereford/Platsmouth formation which is the target material for the limestone operation. Due to the massive amounts of overburden and junk rock economics dictate that in order to extract the good limestone it must be removed using underground mining techniques. This underground mining operation uses a room and pillar drill and blast method to extract the rock. Years of mining have left a labyrinth of rooms that spread out from the one and only entrance into the mine. Miles of roads have to be traversed by haul trucks laden with the broken rock to reach the outside world. Engineers were called in to design a way to get to a 20 1/2-foot layer of high quality Kereford/Plattsmouth limestone that is over 200-feet deep. It was decided that the most economical way to reach this layer of rock would be to ramp down to it and remove all the material out of the way. As a safety feature the engineers would put in catch benches. These specially designed benches would keep material from falling from the top all the way to the bottom. By taking a giant triangle out of the ground, haul trucks would be able to drive down the ramp and straight into the Kereford/Plattsmouth limestone layer. Once an acceptable location was selected and the permits issued, construction on the new mine portal entrance began. The future entrance was in the middle of a corn field. Sudbeck Construction performed the site work grading and excavation for the project. First the overburden would be striped off to get to the top of the rock. To construct the mine entrance, 100-feet of dirt overburden had to be removed to get to the top of the rock (1.6 million cubic yards of dirt). The sides were sloped back on a 2:1 to ensure slope stability and the ramp was set on a 10 degree decline. Once the dirt was peeled back it was time for Dykon Blasting Corp. to blast their way down to the Kereford/Plattsmouth limestone layer. The final depth of the excavation was 240-feet from the top of the ground with 140-feet in solid rock. At the surface of the rock the opening is 220-feet wide and 900-feet long. The rock was excavated with 3 separate benches. The ramp followed a constant 10 degree slope down to the bottom where it leveled off for 65-feet before the back wall (Portal entrance). Dykon loaded the blasts with the aid of a bulk explosive truck. The bulk truck blended ANFO (ammonium nitrate fuel oil) and emulsion before auguring the blend into the blast holes. The amount of material that Dykon was able to blast and the time it took to prepare a blast let Dykon stay well ahead of Sudbeck Construction. In one week Dykon blasted enough material to keep Sudbeck digging for a month. During that time Dykon returned home and resumed working on other jobs in Oklahoma and Arkansas. Dykon blasted approximately 500,000 cubic yards of rock which Sudbeck had to load and haul up and out of the hole. The Quarry operator will now take over and begin driving drifts (tunnels) into the Kereford/Plattsmouth limestone. They will also be relocating their primary crusher and screening plant to the new location which is approximately two miles from their existing location. The move should keep the residents of Weeping Water, Nebraska a little happier and a lot less dusty.

Typically found as massive metallic material, it has a copper-red color on fresh exposures which quickly tarnishes to an iridescent purple after exposure to air and moisture. May be confused with tarnished chalcopyrite. Common and widespread in copper ore deposits. It also occurs in basic intrusives, in dikes, in contact metamorphic deposits, in quartz veins and in pegmatites. Underground in a small mine near Beaverdell
Initial prospecting began in the Beaverdell area in the late 1880s. The first ore was shipped in 1896. The major producing mines in the Beaverdell silver-lead-zinc vein camp, from west to east, were the Wellington (082ESW072), Sally and Rob Roy (082ESW073), Beaver (082ESW040), and Beaverdell (082ESW030), with numerous other small workings throughout the area. Production commenced on the Highland Lass in 1922. In 1930, R.B. Staples and associates obtained control of the Bell and Highland Lass, however production was recorded separately until the purchase was complete in 1936. Production continued under the amalgamated Highland-Bell mine owned by Highland-Bell Ltd. Highland-Bell Ltd. was purchased by Leitch Gold Mines Ltd. in 1946 but operations continued as the Highland-Bell mine. In 1953, a down-faulted section of the Lass vein system was found 229 metres vertically lower and developed by a 1600-metre adit. Teck Corp. assumed control of the mine in 1970. In 1986 and 1987, property exploration by Teck Corp. located an eastward ore extension with increased gold content on the lower (2900) level. This included an ore block containing 5442 tonnes grading 1371 grams per tonne silver (Assessment Report 15790). Production ceased in 1991
Nullagine Gold Project increases ore recovery in narrow ore zones
The Nullagine Gold Operation is located in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Gold production from the NGO is sourced from seven mining centres established over a +40km strike length. Despite following a common structural trend, there is a large variance between deposits, which requires different approach to blasting for each pit, so blast movement is highly variable between prospects. BVIs (blast vector indicators or polypipe) were used to measure blast movement. The downfalls: only 40% BVI recovery rate on the top flitch and even less on the bottom flitch. NGO transitioned to BMT's blast movement monitors, which gave them a 94% recovery rate of BMM data. They are now able to confidently target narrow lodes--that would otherwise be lost due to movement.

Mine Development Crew Mucking Out
A miner employed by Dumas Contracting using an Atlas Copco 1020 Scooptram Load-Haul-Dump to muck waste rock from an underground drift (MA 3790) on the 3900 level of the Balmat #4 Mine operated by St. Lawrence Zinc. This loader is powered by a Detroit Diesel Series 60 engine rated at 225 horsepower. The loader carries 6 cubic yards of ore or waste per load. The video was taken with a small digital camera - It gives a good representation of what we see everyday in the mine, it however, can not convey the heat and the noise that these machines give off as they are operating. Enjoy the clip and thank the men and women who descend into the mines the world over in pursuit of Mother Earth's treasure so that we can all enjoy a better style of life.

Kumtor. Part Six -- Open Pit. Blasting
You can't do without blasting in mining. In order to mine ore, you need to crush up rock, compressed over millions of years into an unmanageable monolith. Otherwise no equipment can operate here.

Rio Tinto Moving Forward With New $2.2 Billion "Intelligent" Mine in the Pilbara
On the agenda for Rio Tinto in 2018 is moving forward with a $2.2 billion “intelligent” iron ore mine in the Pilbara. The proposed plan is to fully integrate advanced robotics, driverless trucks and driverless trains into the Koodaideri Mine. Rio Tinto’s head of iron ore Chris Salisbury has confirmed that feasibility studies are already underway to demonstrate the economics of the plan. "We will bring all our technologies into a single place with a mine that is purpose-built to adapt those technologies.” "We are calling it our intelligent mine." Rio anticipates that the Koodaideri mine will produce 40 million tonnes per year by 2021, though this could grow to 70 million tonnes or more. This will add to the 300 million tonnes of iron ore Rio Tinto already extracts from its Australian mines. The Koodaideri “intelligent” mine fits into Rio’s strategy of producing a higher quality of ore, which China is increasingly preferring. Rio Tinto has highlighted the growing price gap between high grade and low grade ore. "We've seen the discount grow from 30 per cent in the first three quarters to over 40 per cent," Chris Salisbury said. Rio already runs an operations centre in Perth which controls many activities on its mines from 1,500km away. It is unknown right now as to how many employees the Koodaideri mine will support and when construction will begin. https://www.iseekplant.com.au/blog/rio-tinto-moving-forward-new-2-2-billion-mine-pilbara/ Source: Rio Tinto, Fairfax, AFR
