Tutorial: Tvheadend compiling and installation w/ VNC

14:48
Video tutorial showing how to compile and install Tvheadend on Lubuntu to use with eg. XBMC or TVHGuide (Android). Same tutorial works on all Ubuntu variants. After the Tvheadend installation I also show how to install and setup x11vnc to control your machine remotely. This is useful if you setup an old laptop as a DVR and then want to eg. update Tvheadend without having to actually physically access the laptop. There's a bandwidth issue with using Tvheadend from virtualbox, but it kinda works from there too. Commands used: sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade sudo apt-get install build-essential git libssl-dev libavahi-client-dev libavcodec-dev libavutil-dev libavformat-dev libswscale-dev liburiparser-dev libhdhomerun-dev ccache git clone https://github.com/tvheadend/tvheadend.git cd tvheadend/ ./configure make sudo make install tvheadend -C firefox http://127.0.0.1:9981 sudo apt-get install x11vnc openssh-server sudo x11vnc -storepasswd password /etc/x11vnc.pass sudo leafpad /etc/init/x11vnc.conf -- start on login-session-start script x11vnc -noxrecord -noxfixes -noxdamage -nomodtweak -display :0 -auth /var/run/lightdm/root/:0 -forever -bg -o /var/log/x11vnc.log -rfbauth /etc/x11vnc.pass -rfbport 5900 end script -- NOTE: I recommend you use a password other than "password" :)

Fix "E : Unable to Locate Package" Error In Kali Linux

03:18
In this video I will show you how we can fix. Unable to find package error in Kali Linux. First after installing a clean Kali Linux the sources.list contains only tow repository, and if you try to do update it maybe update a few apps and if you try to install a new app 90% it won't and it will give you a message saying: E: Unable to locate package, or, E: Package 'gimp' has no installation candidate. For example if you want to install a software using apt-get command, for demonstration purposes. I will install gimp which is a open-source software for raster graphics editor used for image retouching and editing, and I'm using a p t get command for installing gimp. Now you can see that I got an error saying, E: Package 'gimp' has no installation candidate. so let's fix this error by editing the sources.list file . The simplest way is to edit the sources.list file located in e t c / a p t / to do so open the Terminal and type ( leafpad / e t c / a p t / sources.list ) after this commend, you will get something like this... now remove every line of them and open your web browser and go to the link given on screen or in the description below. or you can simple google Kali Linux repository. here we got the repository of Kali Linux rolling and if you are using any older version. Then scroll down and you will get repository for that version also, copy the repository and paste it in the source file, and then save it. go back to the terminal and type a p t - get update. It can take some time depending upon your Internet speed. after it finsh updating we can install GIMP using A P T get command. As you can see it’s working fine now and you can install Gimp and update your system without any error. Help and subscribe for more tips and tricks

How to install WhatPulse on Ubuntu 14.04.2

09:52
Here is a list of things I had to do including all commands: 1. Download debian version of WhatPulse for your OS (32/64bit) 2. Extract files to desktop (or where you want it installed) 3. Open http://whatpulse.org/kb/content/7/15/en/linux-installation.html which will help you a bit. 4. Open Terminal with Ctrl + Alt + T and write the following commands: sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libqtcore4 libqtwebkit4 libqt4-sql libqt4-sql-sqlite libssl-dev libqtscript4-sql libqtscript4-core libpcap0.8 libpcap0.8-dev 5. Put .sh and whatpulse file in a location where you want it to be installed 6. Run Whatpulse and click Yes when prompted to fix some stuff 7. in terminal go to the location where your WhatPulse is located with 'cd /home/yourname/foldername' or different path depending on where you put your installation folder 8. run 'sudo setcap cap_net_raw,cap_net_admin=eip ./whatpulse' 9. run .sh script from installation folder by just dragging it in terminal and running it as root. (or type 'sudo '/home/username/foldername/setup-input-permissions.sh' ' and enter your username when prompted to enter username to add to group. 10. Restart Whatpulse 11. Open Startup Applications and add it to startup programs __________________________________________________________ This was a learning experience for me too. I primarily use Windows as my OS, but I want to learn more about linux too. The Whatpulse help page did help a lot, but I think it's slightly too hard for someone completely new to Ubuntu / Linux environment. In order for me to find all the right packages I firstly installed aptitude with command 'sudo apt-get install aptitude' which then allowed me to search for the libraries I needed to download, which was done by searching with this command 'sudo aptitude search ...' In total it took me about 35 minutes to figure out what to do, but I'm happy I did it. I'd probably be able to install it in just a few minutes if I had to do it again.
