Guiding the band though the '80s and '90s with a combination of chemistry, talent and a desire for excellence, their unique and distinctive guitar sounds and thought-provoking lyrics have succeeded in inspiring both the audience and the critics' imagination the world over. In recent years the band have continued on their creative trajectory and with their induction into the 2010 ARIA Hall Of Fame, they have been able to reflect on their huge body of work as they continue to be prolific and pursue their artistic aspirations both live and in the studio. From the debut album Of Skins and Heart (including their first hit The Unguarded Moment) to the artistically and commercially successful Starfish, charting high in both Australia and the USA, (featuring the ubiquitous Under The Milky Way and guitar driven Reptile), through to 2009′s lush, organic masterpiece Untitled #23, lead vocalist and bassist Steve Kilbey, guitarists Peter Koppes and Marty Willson-Piper and drummer Tim Powles (now an active member of the band for 17 years), have continued as the church through three whole decades to pleasure their fans with a unerring sense of space, melody, beat driven prose and sonic charm. Rolling Stone Australia gave their last album Untitled #23 an unprecedented 5 star review -- "a stunningly ambitious album of shimmering rock". In the USA Rolling Stone commented, "the church have truly reaffirmed themselves as one of the world's leading melodic art-rock bands, regarded by critics as "a powerful, progressive force in rock music", playing "the most ethereal sounds this side of paradise" and have remained one of the world's most innovative and enigmatic groups justifying praises from the press including "Best guitar band on Earth", "Sonic perfection", "Sounds that caress the senses". "A masterpiece of stealth".

Ripple (the church Priest = Aura)

One of my all-time favourite church songs, Ripple. This is the original Priest = Aura version, which is distinctly longer and different than the version on Deep in the Shallows. The photographs are from the collection of Estelle Moughton, with much thanks. And the videography, motion stills, editing, kaleidoscopics and all that stuff by DD.

Ripple (the church) (Priest = Aura remastered)

06:22
One of my all-time favourite church songs, Ripple. I chose the 2005 remastered Priest=Aura version for this remake of the video. Last year's Ripple, I used the Deep in the Shallows version, which is about a minute shorter. And it has got over 2500 hits at YT. The photographs are from the collection of Estelle Moughton, with much thanks. And the videography, motion stills, editing, kaleidoscopics and all that stuff by DD.

Matt Dille ripple video

03:00
This video tells the story of our two year journey as suicide survivors. We want to share some of the positive ripple effects that have occurred over this time. We have enjoyed so much love and support from our family, friends, Church and community, which has helped us through these difficult times. Our healing journey began at the funeral when many gathered and told uplifting stories which we never heard about Matt. Our Oaklane racing family along with Matt’s high school friends held a touching candlelight vigil at the track. His friends spoke about their memories of racing and being with Matt. This kind event affirmed how much he was loved and allowed them to start their healing process. Christmas was always a special time for Matt and we would start the season by selecting and cutting down a live tree for the house. It was too heartbreaking to get a natural tree, so we searched for a suitable artificial tree. When we found one called “Matthew Fir” at Home Depot we knew we had the right one. This was the floor model and only one left. The store manager was so touched by our story that they gave us the tree with his compliments. Matt’s friend Diana Grater painted a picture of Matt standing on the moon looking out into the stars. This is a beautiful painting and it was part of Diana’s healing process. Diana painted Matt facing away because she believed he is still looking forward… living out a new journey for himself. It hangs proudly in our home. Matt decided to be an organ donor when he got his driver’s license. We honored his wishes and his organs, bone and tissues are now helping over 33 recipients. It makes us happy that he is helping people live better lives. Patti organized a bake sale to raise money for the Gift of Life organization. Ryan DeMent, from Matt’s High School, asked if we would be involved in the Gift of Life Donor Dash. Ryan and Diana organized a team. They came up with the name, “The Red Hot Dille Peppers” in Matt’s honor. This was because of his love for the Red Hot Chili Pepper’s music. A perfect name and logo was developed for the team shirts. We celebrated Matt’s 18th birthday at the Oaklane track with friends and family by setting off sky lanterns with special messages and having birthday cake. It was heartwarming to have so many friends to honor Matt’s memory. The high school made a memorial “Come Together” mosaic mural to Matt and Gavin, who both died within weeks of each other. Designing, making and unveiling the mural was helpful to promote healing at the school. Brendan Clarke, from Matt’s High school class was instrumental in the design of this beautiful mural. This remarkable mural hangs in the main hallway of the Souderton Area High School for everyone to see. The love and support from Matt’s very special friend Michaela has meant so much to us. Since Matt’s passing we have become closer to Michaela and her family and it has been a comfort to us. Andrea Wilkins made a memory quilt for us out of Matt’s clothes. Every square inch brings back warm memories of Matt. We are comforted as part of Matt keeps us warm as we sleep. Every fall Patti’s friends stop by to plant mums around the yard. This event has become known as “Mums for Matt” and helps keep Matt’s memory alive. Matt was getting more into bicycling just before he passed. Joe fashioned this fixed gear bicycle in memory of Matt and painted it his favorite color, green. Riding it makes him feel like Matt is still riding along with him. The bike features Matt’s quarter midget racing number “84” brazed to the head tube. Matt competed in the local science fairs for years. We have created the “Matthew R. Dille Memorial Award for Originality in Physics” in his memory. One of the biggest ripples left by Matt has been our efforts for suicide awareness and prevention. Patti is a member of the Montgomery County Suicide Prevention Task Force. She has also become a QPR trainer. Matt’s friend Diana Grater organized an Out of Darkness walk at her college. We advocated at school board meetings for the district to embrace the directives in Pennsylvania Act 71. Patti is very active in the Peyton Hearts Project. Patti and her friends crochet and distribute thousands of Peyton hearts with inspirational messages in many areas. Many of Patti’s friends and members of the 2015 graduated HS Souderton class have taken hearts as well to distribute. Peyton Hearts have been incorporated into the Montgomery Co. Suicide Prevention Task force as well. We spoke at a suicide prevention candlelight vigil at Widener University hosted by Active Minds, reaching out to over 100 students. We will continue to do our small parts to raise suicide awareness and improve prevention. Music Artist: Chris Zabriskie Song: Nirvana

The Church - One Day

04:31
The Church is an Australian rock band formed in Canberra in 1980. Initially associated with New Wave and the neo-psychedelic sound of the mid 1980s, their music later became more reminiscent of "progressive rock," featuring long instrumental jams and complex guitar interplay. The Church's debut album, Of Skins and Heart (1981), earned them their first radio hit "The Unguarded Moment". They were signed to major labels in Australia, Europe and the U.S. However, the U.S. label was dissatisfied with their second album and dropped the band without releasing the album. This put a dent in their commercial success, but they made a comeback in 1988, with the album Starfish and the American Top 40 hit "Under the Milky Way." Subsequently commercial success proved elusive, however, and the band weathered several line-up changes in the 1990s. The last decade has seen them settle on their current lineup, which features the original three founding members plus drummer Tim Powles.

USA: Local residents feel ripple effects of Sutherland Springs church shooting

02:45
Local residents commented the attack on the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs on Monday. One resident, Karen Barnes, defended the Second Amendment, saying "in a situation like this it could have prevented a lot more devastation." Another resident, David Casillas, said he was horrified by the incident as he had moved to Sutherland Springs from Houston after his son was killed in a shooting. An elder resident, Margaret Shummer, added, "it's the hugs, the tears, the care and the love is going to get us through, in a small community, this is a one big family." Authorities have reported that the gunman, 26-year old Devin Kelley, was found dead after escaping in his car, although it is unknown whether he killed himself or died from a gunshot fired by a local resident. The motive behind the attack has not yet been reported.
