Top 36 World's Largest Zinc Producing Countries

09:19
Zinc is a chemichal, which is responsible for a number of elements in the human body and helps stimulate the activities of enzymes. Zinc ore deposits are widely spread throughout the world. Zinc ores are extracted in more than 50 countries. China, Australia, Peru, Europe and Canada are the biggest zinc mining countries. Zinc is normally associated with lead and other metals including copper, gold and silver.Around the world zinc production is about 12 million tonnes.Zinc is the fourth most used metal, only being trailed by iron ore, alminium and copper. 80% of zinc mines are underground, 8% are of the open pit type and the remainder is a combination of both. However, in terms of production volume, open pit mines account for as much as 15%, underground mines produce 64% and 21% of mine production comes from the combined underground and open pit mining. Having a low level of zinc makes someone more susceptible to diseases and illnesses. In fact, zinc deficiency is responsible for over 800,000 childhood deaths in the world every year and 2 million adults especially in developing countries. Zinc is found in protein-rich foods, such as beans, red meat (beef and lamb), and peanuts. If you are deficient in zinc, it can also be taken as a supplement. The zinc oxide or ZnO is a white insoluble powder used as pigments in paints, cosmetics, glass, dental cement, batteries, inks, medicine for treatment for skin conditions etc. Sources: International Zinc Association http://www.zinc.org/basics/zinc_natural_occurrence Zinc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc Zinc oxide http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_oxide List of countries by zinc production http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_zinc_production Medical news http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/263176.php

TOP OF THE WORLD | 12 Biggest Mines December 2016

07:39
These huge open-pits in the ground can either be called mines or quarry and they give us amazing things like gold, silver, and copper! Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 7. The Barrick Goldstrike Mine Owned and operated by Barrick Gold, which is the largest gold mining company, the goldstrike mine happens to be the largest gold mine in all of North America. Located in Eureka County, Nevada, the goldstrike mine is comprised of 3 different mines, the larger of the three is the Betze-Post open-pit mine, the Meikle, and the Rodeo, both of which are found underground. This complex of mines is also the largest Carlin-type mine in the world. First opened way back in 1986, the mine not only produces gold but silver as well, which just so happens to be where Nevada gets its famous nickname, the “Silver State”, from. 6. The Oyu Tolgoi Mine The name for this combined open-pit mining project translates to Turquoise Hill and is located in the southern region of the Gobi Desert in Mongolia. The mines that are filled with gold-copper ore deposits are actually relatively new and were only recently discovered back in 2001 by the Canadian company Ivanhoe Mines. It’s expected that the mine will reach full capacity in the year 2021. It’s believed that this mine contains around 2,700,000 tons of copper and another 1.7 million ounces of gold. Like with all other mines, the environmental impact that the Oyu Tolgoi mine is often criticized since it is located in such a dry area and uses more than one billion gallons of water each month. 5. The Chuquicamata (choo-kee-kə-mah-tə) Mine In terms of volume, the chuquicamata mine, or the “Chuqui” mine as it’s more commonly known is the second deepest open-pit mine on the planet. This mine can be found in the northern area of Chile where its main export is that of copper. This has been the country’s main export and staple that is crucial to how the people of Chile rely on an income and it’s here that the metal is called “Chile’s salary” ever since they became dependent on the copper industry back when the first World War ended. Copper actually makes up about a third of all the country’s foreign trade but that 33 percent was once at a high percentage of 75% a few years earlier. 4. The Dionysos Marble Quarry This quarry lies on the Penteli Mountain in the town and municipality of Dionysos, Attica in Greece. It’s here that the world famous Dionysos pentelicon marble is extracted. The quarry has been opened for more than a 100 years and it was back in 1949 that it was owned by the Dionysos Marble Company. The quarry currently has 2 underground sites and 9 above ground sites where the marble is extracted. The marble here is protected by law and is solely used for the Acropolis Restoration Project and other ancient buildings in Athens. 3. The Udachnaya Pipe The name of this open-pit mine literally translates to lucky pipe and can be found right outside of the Arctic Circle in Sakha Republic, Russia. This mine was discovered way back in June of 1955 and is believed to contain around 225.8 million carats of diamonds with an estimated 10.4 million carats harvested annually. The diamond mine was taken over by the Russian diamond company Alrosa back in 2010. This is mine also happens to be the third deepest open-pit mine in the world at a depth of 1,970 feet. 2. The Mir Mine Occasionally called the Mirny Mine, this was once a former open-pit diamond mine that is located in Mirny, Eastern Siberia, Russia. This mine reaches a depth of 1,722 feet deep, along with a diameter of 3,900 feet making it one of the largest excavated holes to ever exist. The mine was first discovered back in June of 1955 by a group of three Soviet geologists. It proved to be rather difficult as it seemed like there was always one problem arising after another. The cold winter months provided harsh conditions that slowed production, the mine suffered a flood in the 90’s, and surface operations would cease in June of 2001 with underground operations still moving forward until the whole mine was permanently shut down in 2004. 1. The Bingham Canyon Mine Known by the locals at the Kennecott Copper Mine, the Bingham Canyon Mine is located in the southwest region of Salt Lake City, Utah, in the United States. This massive chasm is known for being the largest man-made excavation in all of the world. Owned by the Rio Tinto Group, the production of this mine was started an astonishing 110-years ago and since then the mine measures at being 2.5 miles long, 0.6 miles deep, and covers a distance of 1,900 acres. The mine endured a tremendous landslide back in 2013 and then a smaller one later that same year.

The World's Largest Abandoned City - Ordos

04:36
Ordos The World’s Largest Abandoned City The development of the city of Ordos is a unique tale. Ordos is a city designed from scratch and built within 10 years. This city came to fruition after private mining companies were given the rights to dig into deposits in the late 90’s and 2000’s. This generated a lot of tax revenue making Ordos the 2nd highest income per capita city in China. Ordos is a city located in Inner Mongolia that has been constantly been burdened with water shortage issues. Instead of trying to revamp the current infrastructure the Chinese government decided to rebuild the city from scratch which is called “New Ordos” just 16 miles or 25 km kilometers away from the existing city now called “Old Ordos”. The people of Old Ordos refer to New Ordos as the Kangbashi district of Ordos, these new and old labels are basically not supported by anyone locally. Two villages built around the Wulan Mulan River were demolished and construction started in 2005. 161 billion dollars in infrastructure was invested to build the Kangbashi District over the first 5 years. Regardless if anyone lives in this new city, this is a major plus to the government of China as it increases China’s GDP. The government gave kickbacks to developers who helped boost GDP so building anything anywhere is promoted. The old city of Ordos or Dongsheng is home to over ½ a million people, it was expected that many of them would move to the new city as it became completed. As explained by many locals, a working couple only makes $800 a month combined of which ⅓ is taken for rent. The new apartments in New Ordos sell for 70 - 100 thousand dollars making it virtually impossible for locals to live there. Sales were slow at first but eventually investors snapped up many of the units in the new city. This has left New Ordos with a ton of infrastructure and no residents. The city was originally designed to hold 1 million people but was scaled down during construction to 500,000 then to 300,000 after coal prices crashed. The city features a 5 story shopping mall, impressive monuments and statues, art and city museum, the Ordos Dongsheng Stadium that seats 35,000 people, opera house, a brand new airport and a modern designed mosque. The city streets are lined with skyscraper after skyscraper that are almost completely empty. A toy store is one of the only stores in the massive 5 story mall, the man who runs the store says he sells something every few days and if the government doesn’t step in soon to fix it, he may have to move back to Dongsheng. It is estimated only 2 % of the buildings were ever filled the rest remain abandoned. Outside the mall an elaborate water show is put on every night with only a few people found to be watching it. A water show this size in a normal city would draw thousands of viewers daily. The city has everything it needs to be a great thriving new city like extra wide roads with bike lanes like what is found in Taipei, modern amenities and infrastructure but simply no people. The initial wave of 30,000 people that moved to New Ordos all lived in a 4 to 5 block radius just north of central park. A few years later that grew to 60,000 and now 12 years after the start of construction there are around 150,000 residents in a city that was originally designed for 1 million. The city has been doing many things to attract people to live there like moving the best schools from Dongsheng to Kangbashi. While some areas of Kangbashi aren’t a ghost town at all today, many still are. One abandoned project is the Ordos 100 Project, which is a project that was to have 100 different extreme luxury villas designed. Instead of the government doing it themselves they invited 100 different architects from around the world to each design a luxury villas to be placed on the map. Land sections were given out with the utmost creative freedom except the design was not to look like traditional Mongolian designs such as Yurts. Each architect designed their villa and construction started. Within the Ordos 100 Project site multiple half finished villas can be found. While many lay half finished some have progress going forward. Subscribe to Motherboard Radio today! http://apple.co/1DWdc9d In October of last year Motherboard gained access to a massive, secretive Bitcoin mine housed within a repurposed factory in the Liaoning Province in rural northeast China. This is the infrastructure that keeps the digital currency’s decentralized network up and running, and its operators are profiting big time. The mine we visited is just one of six sites owned by a secretive group of four people, part of a colossal mining operation that, as of our visit, cumulatively generated 4,050 bitcoins a month, equivalent to a monthly gross of $1.5 million. 11 Worst Pollutants in the World

08:22
Here are the 11 worst pollutants and the ones that have the most negative effects on the environment like slag and oil spill disaster. Subscribe to Talltanic http://goo.gl/wgfvrr 5. Slag No, that is not Nickelodeon getting rid of their leftover slime. What’s being dumped is slag. Slag is the leftover materials from ore after the desired material has already been extracted. Slag dumping was generally considered safe until recently. It has even commonly been repurposed for the process of creating cement. However, recent studies reveal that the leftover slag could be producing toxic levels of arsenic, lead, cadmium, barium, zinc and copper. The gradual weathering of the slag can pollute everything surrounding it, including the water and air. This isn’t all slag, though, the harmful effects are mostly caused by slag that is left over from refining copper, zinc, cadmium and other base metals. 4. Untreated Sewage Sewage isn’t really something that most people like to think about, but that doesn’t stop it from being a big problem. The untreated sewage contains human feces and wastewater that, obviously, have some pretty damaging effects. Raw sewage is often dumped into water supplies in poor areas of the world because there isn’t much of an alternative. Besides causing a plethora of dangerous diseases, the waste also destroys ecosystems and lowers the oxygen contents so that no life can survive in the water. The World Health Organization estimates that 2.6 billion people were affected by raw sewage dumping because there was no other way to dispose of it. WHO is making strides in extending access to modern sewage treatment to the communities that most need it. 3. Oil With the highly publicized BP Deepwater Horizon, the oil spill that happened in 2010 and is still affecting the United States and the Gulf of Mexico, the dangers of oil drilling is more well known than ever. The 580 tons of oil that were spilled wasn’t even the biggest oil spill in the world. Not even close. The biggest happened in Kuwait in 1991 when 136,000 tons of oil was spilled. Oil can devastate the local marine life. Oil is especially dangerous to animals with feathers or heavy fur because the oil can insulate them and make them more vulnerable to temperature, especially hypothermia, and reduce their buoyancy. Almost all of the birds affected by oil spills die without human intervention. Some studies say that oil spills are happening less, but that has been disputed. There has still been 9,351 accidental oil spill since 1974 and each one means that the surrounding ecosystem needs decades to recover from the accident. 2. Gold Mining Gold is pretty. It’s the gold standard for jewelry and that pun was most definitely intended. Our country was practically founded because of it. There are two processes for mining the mineral, though, and both are insanely dangerous. The two process are the cyanide process, which is the most common today, and the mercury process. It pretty obvious that with names like that it’s going to be dangerous. Cyanide is incredibly poisonous in tiny quantities and there have been massive cyanide spills throughout time because of the industry. The cyanide leaks have been known to poison fish in local rivers for long stretches. These leaks are considered by many to be massive environmental disasters. There is also a ton of waste produced from the mining. Thirty tons of ore are disposed of for every half pound of gold mined. The ore dumps also have major levels of cadmium, lead, zinc, arsenic, selenium and mercury. The danger of these dumps is second only to the danger of radioactive waste dumps. 1.Radiation Radioactive waste didn’t become a real problem until the birth of the nuclear power plant. Most of the radioactive waste that the world has is caused by nuclear fission or nuclear technology. The waste is maintained by the government, but leaks have been known to happen. The most notable cases of radiation damage can be found in Chernobyl. The leak happened in 1986 and the site still isn’t considered safe. Radiation decays over time, though, so this problem is more manageable than other items on this list. If the radioactive waste is contained for the right amount of time, then it can be more safely disposed of. Without proper containment, though, the radiation can lead to death and various cancers. There are also dangers to future generations as well because it has been documented that radiation can cause severe birth defects.

Big, Bigger, BIGGEST! 3 MASSIVE MACHINES that move! (World’s biggest / largest ever built!)

05:14
Big, Bigger, BIGGEST! 3 MASSIVE MACHINES that move (and work!) (World’s biggest / largest ever built!) NASA CRAWLER-TRANSPORTERS: The NASA crawler-transporters are the largest land transport vehicles in the world. Each crawler weighs about 2.7 million kilograms or about 6 million pounds. They are 40 meters or 131 feet long and 35 meters or 114 feet wide. Built in 1965 at a cost of 14 million US dollars each, the 2 crawler-transporters are actually nicknamed “Hans” and “Franz”. And what absolutely magnificent works of design and engineering they both are – these massive machines and their combined 8 thousand horse power engines have smoothly and faithfully carried all the Saturn V rockets and all the Space Shuttles the 5 mile journey from the Vehicle Assembly Building to the Launch Pad. And in fact between the 2 of them they have travelled more than 3,400 miles in total, that’s about the distance from Miami to Seattle. BERTHA: Big Bertha is the world’s largest tunnel boring machine… and here she is in 41 pieces leaving Osaka Bay Japan on route to the United States of America. The 80 million dollar 57.5 foot diameter Bertha was designed specifically for the SR99 Tunnel Project commissioned by the Washington State Department of Transportation. Named after Seattle’s only Female Mayor, Bertha Knight Landes, the massive machine Bertha is 326 feet long and weighs 7,000 tons or 14 million pounds. And as she winds her way under Seattle, Bertha will chew through approximately 35 feet of rock and soil each day. She will also, using her giant pair of arms, automatically erect and seal thousands of concrete panels as she goes. She is simply incredible, and is surely one of the greatest machines ever devised. BAGGER 293: Bagger 293 is the biggest terrestrial vehicle of all time (and the biggest mining machine ever). Built in 1995 by the German industrial company TAKRAF, Bagger 293 is a giant bucket wheel excavator that currently works in a brown coal mine near Hambach in western Germany. At 738 feet long and towering 315 feet high, this gigantic contraption weighs 14,200 tonnes or about 31 million pounds. Powered by enough electricity to sustain a medium sized town, each of Bagger 293s 20 buckets can hold about 80 bathtubs worth of dirt, meaning it can move about 8.5 million cubic feet of earth per day. … to put that in perspective, that’s the equivalent of digging a really, really big hole…. and to be more precise… that’s about the size of digging a football field 30 meters or about 100 feet deep, in a single day. If you want buy one of these monstrous mechanical marvels, you’ll need at least 100 million US dollars and a crew of 5 to drive it… but you won’t have to worry about speeding tickets, as this Big Bopper has a top speed of only 0.9 kilometres per hour.

BHP Billiton spin-off to simplify world's biggest mining company

00:46
BHP Billiton - the world's biggest miner - has announced it will shift a number of its businesses into a separate company in order to focus on its most profitable activities. In essence it is a demerger as most of them were acquired by BHP when it merged with Billiton in 2001. The new entity, worth an estimated $16 billion (12 billion euros), will include aluminium, manganese, nickel, silver, lead and zinc, as well as coal mines in some countries. Investors were not impressed and the share price fell, but analysts said that was because the company did not announce a special dividend or a buy back of the stock and that the sell-off was overdone. BHP has said it wants to pay down its debt before returning capital to shareholders… READ MORE : http://www.euronews.com/2014/08/19/bhp-billiton-spin-off-to-simplify-world-s-biggest-mining-company euronews business brings you latest updates from the world of finance and economy, in-depth analysis, interviews, infographics and more Subscribe for daily dose of business news: http://bit.ly/1pcHCzj Made by euronews, the most watched news channel in Europe.

After more than a decade of illegal mining, the country is facing an environmental disaster. "First the miners burn down the rainforest. Then they dig a giant crater, hosing away the muddy earth and polluting rivers and forests." There are over a thousand illegal mines like this in French Guyana. They’'re steadily destroying the rainforest’'s ecosystem. "“They will never be able to stop it because the jungle is so big and we are so tenacious”," states one miner. Most of this illegal gold is mixed together with gold from other sources and ends up abroad. "“There needs to be much greater political impetus behind regulating this very destructive trade”," states MEP Caroline Lucas. Guinness World Record : Largest mining truck body Belaz 75710 - 450 metric tons HD

05:04
Zhodino, Belarus -- The truck BelAZ-75710 is able to transport more than 450 metric tons of material — that's equivalent to seven fully fueled and loaded Airbus A320-200 planes; driven by four 1,200 kW electric motors from Siemens, the truck is over 20 meters long, almost ten meters wide, and around eight meters tall; it has a turning radius of approximately 20 meters and a top speed of 64 km/h, setting the new world record for the Largest mining truck body (volume), according to the World Record Academy. The Guinness World Records' record for the largest parade of pickup trucks numbered 451, achieved by Ram (USA) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, USA, on 18 April 2015. Guinness World Records also recognized the world record for the largest parade of tow trucks; it consisted of 324 tow trucks and was organized by Worldwide Equipment Sales Tow Trucks for Tots (USA). The trucks participated in a parade from Joliet to Bridgeview, Illinois, USA, on 13 November 2011. The truck BelAZ-75710 is able to transport more than 450 metric tons of material — that's equivalent to seven fully fueled and loaded Airbus A320-200 planes. The truck is driven by four 1,200 kW electric motors from Siemens. The system uses two 16-cylinder diesel engines, each with an output of around 1,700 kW. Together they provide the energy that the electric drive requires in order to propel the giant tires. The traction motors for the electric gear were manufactured at Siemens in Nuremberg, Germany. The project was completed in a comparatively short term: the development process from ordering to commissioning took less than two years. The truck was unveiled to the public in October 2013. The truck BelAZ-7571 is over 20 meters long, almost ten meters wide, and around eight meters tall. It has a turning radius of approximately 20 meters and a top speed of 64 km/h. Its all-wheel drive and four-wheel hydraulic steering ensure that the tires, which are around four meters tall, don't get stuck in rough terrain. The truck is being used primarily to transport coal and iron ore-bearing rocks in opencast mining in Siberia. Copyright © Idirizzo. Top 33 World's Largest Copper Producing Countries

07:33
Copper is one of the most used metal by man; it is an essential element for building construction, power generation and transmission, electronic product manufacturing, and the production of industrial machinery and transportation vehicles. There is no evidence that copper even can be absorbed through the skin. But if it were, this could actually lead to copper poisoning, which may actually be more likely than beneficial effects, that is why it is also s vital to the health of all living things (humans, plants, animals, and microorganisms). In humans, copper is essential to the proper functioning of organs and metabolic processes. The human body has complex homeostatic mechanisms which attempt to ensure a constant supply of available copper, while eliminating excess copper whenever this occurs. Unfortunately there is also a downside to the production of copper in many Third World countries where you find a widespread of fraud, negligence and abuse. Global Witness has documented that government officials in many of the world's most impoverished countries turn a blind eye on harsh labor conditions in the artisanal mines, the complete absence of safety precautions and the failure of both the government and companies to take responsibility for the health and safety of tens of thousands of artisanal miners. In many developing countries, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Zambia, Republic of the Congo and some other Third and Second World countries minors you will usually find that governments of those countries do not place any value to the safety precautions of their safety precautions, this leads to huge risks of accidents and deaths in the mines and very often nothing gets investigated. Yes, the big influx of foreign firms or multinationals pouring into those countries presents opportunities for the political elite to enrich themselves. leaving their citizens in misery, but it is the mentality that needs to change, it is the paradigm of those societies that need to change; progress comes with a price. In much of the very impoverished countries there is a growing amount of resentment because the vast profits resulting from copper and any other metal flow out of their countries without them seeing any change in their financial situation. That is why natural resources can be a blessing and a curse to a developing country. Governments in those countries do not believe that universal rights are values that their societies can implement, unconsciously they are not interested in adopting any form of human rights. Coal mining in America's heartland | DW Documentary

42:26
West Virginia, USA - under its wild mountain idyll hides the "black hell": A labyrinth of dark tunnels - hard life in a coal mine. [Online until: 15 August 2019] "Wild, wonderful West Virginia” - that’s how the small state nestled in the Appalachian Mountains bills itself. This documentary reports on the daily struggle facing local coal miners hoping for help from Donald Trump; a sheriff combating the opioid epidemic that has already claimed thousands of lives; and a Cherokee environmental activist whose efforts have earned her intimidation and threats. The whistle of a locomotive at the front of an old coal train, quiet winding roads, and hardly a highway to be found - that’s still the image that many have of West Virginia today. But beneath the forest-covered mountains lies a labyrinth of tunnels just one meter high, in which miners still spend their entire working days toiling in the dark on their hands and knees. The camera team accompanies a traditional coal mining family as they go about their day. Together with the family’s two sons, Scott and Steven Lockhart, the crew ventures into the mine. Conversations with the miners reveal why people who had been lifelong Democratic Party supporters are suddenly placing their hopes for the future in Donald Trump. But the documentary also ventures beyond the coal mines to uncover the lesser-known sides of this Appalachian state - from snake-handling Pentecostal churches to the bluegrass and mountain ballads of Alan Cathead Johnston. We also speak with Sheriff Martin West, who sued the country’s three biggest pharmaceutical makers for their role in the opioid epidemic that has swept the region. And we meet another person who has decided to fight back: Maria Gunnoe, a young Cherokee activist who has dared to take on the coal barons that are ravaging the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Check out the most amazing trucks in the world! From the largest to the most heavy, this top 10 list of craziest and coolest trucks is absolutely awesome! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "Most AMAZING Military Vehicles!" video here: https://youtu.be/GI1pQS3fbgc Watch our "SCIFI Weapons That Actually EXIST!" video here: https://youtu.be/REi8y34Y8Bc Watch our "AMAZING Places Around The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/xdWeyQ86cPM #9 Hitachi EH5000AC-3 The EH5000AC-3 is Hitachi’s largest rigid-frame hauler in the history of the company’s existence. They use a unique hauler technology that has lasted them through the ages. In addition to the timeless technique, they’ve added a brand new, high-efficiency Advanced IGBT AC-Drive system. Hitachi is one of the most eco-friendly companies that produce hauling trucks. They can raise profits by lowering fuel and maintenance costs. They are able to spend less, to make more, and get more done in the process. The machine itself weighs about 550 tons, but has a payload of 325 tons. With a 2,850 hp, the Hitachi EH5000AC-3 knows how to get the most out of its fuel. It also has safety measures built in. A Slip/Slide Control System will add traction in slippery conditions, such a rainstorm or when ice is on the roads. Not to mention, this makes sharp turns much easier as well. A pitch control system will allow this truck to drive over rough roads with ease. Meaning, the driver won’t lose any of its load when off-road. With LCDs, heating/cooling controls, independent cabs, monitoring cameras, and much more, it is likely this machine is the most advanced and well thought out truck in the world. #8 BelAZ 75710 As the make suggests, the BelAZ is a manufacturer based in Belarus. As of 2016, it is the world's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck. The BelAz 75710 is equipped with a two-axle setup yet the wheels are a four to an axle! Because of this, it also needs eight large 59/80R63 tires. Four-wheel drive and four-wheel hydraulic steering is seen on this truck. A funny addition considering its turning radius is only 20 meters. It can be loaded to a capacity of nearly 500 short tons and still drive as usual. Though empty, it still weighs over 350 tons. It is 66 feet long, 26 feet tall, and 32 feet wide. That’s about three times as tall as a Giraffe. Rather than using the power of one single engine, it is powered by two 65-litre 16-cylinder diesel engines, each of these engines having 2,300 horsepower. Since the fuel consumption is 198 g/kWh per engine, there is an option to use only one engine when carrying smaller loads. At its best, it can travel 40 miles per hour. BelAz believes in this 2013 truck so much, that they have invested $644 million in increasing its total production capacity. #7 Caterpillar 797F The Caterpillar 797F is Caterpillar's largest, highest payload capacity haul truck! It appears to be every little boy’s dream to drive one of these when he grows up as the 797 series is the perfect Tonka truck model! The Caterpillar 797F was first mentioned to the public at MINExpo International in September, 2008. This guy was the successor to the 797B. The 797F has a higher payload capacity and a more powerful, more efficient engine than its predecessor. Because of these increases, Caterpillar could meet the needs of mine operators' so they were able to increase the efficiency of their work. They also saved money by reducing the costs considering the payload was much higher, meaning less trips, less fuel, less time. The payload capacity? 400 short tons! The horsepower? A gross 4,000! The top speed? 42 miles per hour! This truck is fully geared with a rear axle mounted, computer controlled, seven speed planetary transmissions that is equipped with an integral lock-up torque converter. #6 Bucyrus MT 6300AC You have to see this military-style machine to believe it! Built for mining, it is a sight to behold and a wondrous machine unlike any other! The Bucyrus MT6300AC is an off road, double-axle, ultra class, diesel/AC electric powertrain haul truck. It was designed and manufactured by Bucyrus International Inc. in America. The MT6300AC is the company’s biggest, highest payload capacity haul truck, and closing in on the highest in the world at 400 short tons. Even fully-loaded, this hauler can reach speeds of up to 40 miles per hour. On February 19, 2010, the Terex Unit Rig MT6300AC was re-branded which created the Bucyrus MT6300AC. This took place when Bucyrus International Inc. took over the mining equipment area of Terex Corporation. You may know Bucyrus makes as Caterpillar's UnitRigs as in 2011, Caterpillar took over a good part of the Bucyrus trucks.

🇿🇦 What's the future of South Africa's mining sector? | Inside Story

24:56
South Africa has some of the world’s biggest reserves of platinum, gold, iron ore and coal. But mining now makes up less than 7% of its economic output, a steep fall from 20% in the 1970s. Mining companies are blaming low prices and soaring production costs for their plans to cut thousands of jobs at a time the country is struggling with high unemployment rates. Mining is also intertwined with race relations in South Africa. The people who work deep underground in often dangerous conditions are overwhelmingly black, while the executives overseeing them are mainly white. Some of the firms have pushed back against government plans to make them bring on more black shareholders. So, is it a losing battle for the mining sector? And can South Africa move away from its dependence on commodities? Presenter: Mohammed Jamjoom Guests: Lebohang Pheko - Senior Research Fellow at Trade Collective - a non-profit think-tank. World's largest Mining Excavator - Bagger 288 - Terex RH 400

05:34
Bagger 288 (Excavator 288), built by the German company Krupp for the energy and mining firm Rheinbraun, is a bucket-wheel excavator or mobile strip mining machine. When its construction was completed in 1978, Bagger 288 superseded Big Muskie as the heaviest land vehicle in the world, at 13,500 tons.[1] In 1995, it was itself superseded by the slightly heavier Bagger 293 (14,200 tons). NASA's Crawler-Transporter still remains the largest self-powered land vehicle in the world, since bucket-wheel excavators are powered by an external power source, and the Overburden Conveyor Bridge F60s hold the title of largest land vehicle of any type by physical dimensions. The Terex RH 400 front shovel has two Cummins QSK 60-C two-stage, turbocharged, aftercooled and intercooled, 16-cylinder engines producing 4,500 net horsepower (HP). It comes standard with a TriPower shovel attachment, independent oil cooling system, five-circuit-hydraulic system, electronic-hydraulic servo control, torque control in the closed-loop swing circuit, automatic central lubrication system, Xenon working lights, Board Control System (BCS), spacious cab, and a hydraulically-driven radiator fan with electronically controlled speed.
