Education is a powerful driver of development and is one of the strongest instruments for reducing poverty. But for many, it isn’t as simple as just going to school. Today, 250 million children don’t know how to read even though many have been to school. To prosper in a rapidly changing world, all children need more than basic literacy and numeracy. They need to be creative, critical thinkers and problem-solvers. We are the first generation in human history to try to end extreme poverty. We know #education is one of the ways out of #poverty. Why is it then that even though 250 children may have been to school, they still don't know how to read and write?
