How to create dropdown menus using Joomla 3. NOTE: For Protostar template, here are the extra steps required to make it work: http://codesteps.com/2013/04/29/how-to-display-pull-down-menus-in-protostar-template-in-joomla-3-x/ Also note that this method will not solve problems you are facing with templates that do not support dropdowns menus in the first place.

what about sub menus
Easy Joomla (1 year ago)
Some templates will allow for 2nd level dropdown menus following the same principal. In other words, many joomla templates allow you to organise the menu like this: Home Services - Cleaning - - Steam Cleaning - - Vacuum Cleaning
This is not working for me, I use the latest Joomla engine and the BlackEngine template which is supprt drop down menu. Any suggestion what I made wrong way? Thanks

Thanks Christian, I'd suggest checking with support for that particular template. Sounds like it might have some particular required settings that are not quite configured right on your web site.

I'm going to have to go to tools on my desktop and find out how to start in the beginning. This doesn't look that hard.

So you need a special template for this...
Easy Joomla (3 years ago)
Not really - most templates in Joomla support this. There are only a handful of templates that don't support this feature out of the box. There are many free templates around that have this feature - and if the template you are using does not offer it, take a look at the Joomla Extension directory for 'dropdown menu' modules and you will find a few that can be helpful

This doesn't work with one of the default templates in Joomla called Protostar.

Syafiq Haron (3 years ago)
Wow nice and short video but I got some problem with drop down menu. The menu that had been pointed as a text separator not working properly as navigation, it just turned to be a text on the menu bar. Need your help.

No, beez3 does not support dropdown menus as far as i know.
syaheilalala (1 year ago)
Hi. I've tried that too. But does it not works with Beez3 template?
Easy Joomla (3 years ago)
Hi Syafiq, what you could try is to change the menu item that was a text seperator into an 'external url' menu item. Set the url for this link to '#'. This would function like a text seperator but should display properly on your template.

Hi, I followed your instruction and it seems so easy. I am using the Helix ii template and it seems to support this. Obviously I am not doing everything right. Can you assist please. Cheers, Paul
Paul Compier (3 years ago)
Thanks very much for your reply. I'll get right on it and let you know! Cheers Paul
Easy Joomla (3 years ago)
HI Paul, sorry for late reply. I'd suggest you follow up with Joomshaper.com who provided this template. Most likely it is a template setting gone wrong which is hindering the dropdown menu from working - despite you having followed the steps in my video.

How do you make your "main links" clickable?
Easy Joomla (4 years ago)
Hi Rainer - you can make the 'main links' clickable by setting this link to be a 'single article' type link instead of a 'page separator' as I did in the video.
