How to Mod your AMD Sapphire Nitro+ RX480 8G GPU Bios and overclock your VRAM memory to get more MH/s (30-31+ MH/s) when Mining Ethereum / ETH Classic.
This should work with any 8G RX480 including XFX, MSI, and Powercolor.
Should also boost mining rate for other alt coins like LBRY and Monero
Notes on Overclocking Memory - 2200 MHz may work fine on your card, you may be able to get more. Try up to 2250. If you get a dropping hash rate try to lower your memory clock until you find a stable number.

I used the 1650 and it usually stays on 28 but overclocking is having no effect at all when it did in the past. I was easily getting it up to the 30 and even 31. But for some reason the overclocks aren't having any effect. Could be the AMD block chain beta driver i'm using. I'll give this driver a go. I like the sound of not needing a patcher.
Hi, I flashed my card using atiflash, polaris, ets, able change out of box speed 24mh up to 27mh, i did it on my personal desktop and put in rig running SimpleMining OS, worked perfect, but have problem with second part, if I change parameters with MSI afterburner or Wattman on my desktop and disconnecting and connecting to my rig changes not saved, what i'm doing wrong?
I did everything according to the video however, I had to use a pixel clock patcher to make my computer recognize the drivers. But now i'm getting worse performance, I'm getting 13 mh/s after bios flash. Before i had 24 mh/s. What have i done wrong?
I’m getting 19mh/s with my rx480 8gs and 16mh/s with my rx480 4gs. I’ve tried flashing the bios this way and the cards just go offline. Been mining at these terrible stock levels for weeks. I also use claymore miner. Please help lol.
Yes, right. Go to radeon setting change GPU overload from 'graphics' to 'compute'.
Note : this radeon menu only works for windows 10, so if you can't find GPU workload menu on radeon setting, updgrade to windows 10.
Something went wrong with my install. Windows no longer recognizes the card and it runs on integrated graphics. I can't access settings and i can't install drivers either. I'm quite sure it broke my card. Followed the instructions step by step. Warning to anyone who wants to try this.
I have tried to flash into my gpu with latest version, model: msi rx480 gaming x 8gb,mining program(nanopool) it doesn't recognize the gpu and it close the program. i flashed again with original bios its normal again!
How could i improve my hashrate?Standard(23MH/s)
i would really appreciate if you could give me the right instructions for this model.
1st I made everything with new 17 version drivers and its not works, miner cant see GPU after bios flashing.
Then I reinstall 16.9.2 drivers and everything goes well! I got as well as you 26+ Mh/s
Then I made overclock by memory 2200Mhz, didn't get 30Mh/s, but 28.5Mh/s and its not stable after memory overclock hashrate are jumping around 22-28 Mh
Hi crypto.. what is a good nitro rx480 nitro setting for core and memory,
Under volt and maunal wattman volt setting ..dunno why latley im only.getting low to mid 27 mh on my 3 rigs
Im normal 2100 to 2120 on most memory , minis 32 volt stable,
Manual volt setting from 818 to 1118
hi. I have followed all the steps inc the bios timing mod. The card works ok BUT nicehash does not recognize the card after the bios flash where the timings have been copied. Do you know why this is?Thanks
Hello , i have 6x xfx rx 480 RS , i have reached the 28.5 Mhs on each card but the power consumption is horrible it's 200W per card were one card pull 250~260 W from walll while 4x cards pull 860W .
I have tried undervolt 100mV , it's stable but no power reduction at all.
The only way reducing the power is to play with power limit but it's lowering the core clock causing the hashrate to decrease.
I have seen people with 6x 480 with power consumption of 970 W.
I am going crazy with this high power usage
when i connect cable card with monitor they give me 30mhz but other card show me only 4mhz and when i swap cable to check other card they show me 30mhz but before card gone to down at 4mhz why this happened?
Many thanks for your vid. I have followed the steps on msi RX480 (samsung memory) and I get maximum 28.68MH/s per card. When I flash from 1500 then I get a message from claymore I may have overclocked and stability issues. I would really appreciate your comment. thanks again.
My system crashes if I go over a 2000 MHz memory clock. Stable hash rate for me is 28 and 27 for MSI 4gb and XFX 8gb, respectively. Crimson also doesn't open on me, on occasion, so I have to reinstall.
Can you help me? I just build my Rig with a Radeon RX 480 8gb from Sapphire DDDR5 Samsung and my hash hate is 16mh/s ... should be 24.. Once I restored the bios it was 24 for 15 seconds and then back to 16mh/s ... Any idea what this could be? I would appreciate a lot a help, thank you in advance
Thanks, does it work on the non nitro version? and will this affect performance in gaming?
I have this card: http://www.sapphiretech.com/productdetial.asp?pid=4647A08C-25B5-4E68-B291-DEF9837B36A6&lang=eng
Its an XFX double fan, I got it from a guy that thought it was broken and so did I. I just wanted to mess with it. I put new thermal paste on and its nice cool and fast. its on ebay
I just bought 6x 1080Ti's, they are a little faster 33Mhash but use more power. This mod works great with Etherium but will it also be fast using Nicehash? Is the card just overal 5mHash faster now? The Nvidia's are about 2400euro's more so If I can still find some 480's this would be great. How about 580'? could they be modded to?
I have a question I was hoping you could help me with, I run NiceHash with a gtx 1080 and I get around 0.4 Gh/s. Now seeing you get around 30ish mh/s, I can't help but wonder why is it so low? I know I kind of borrow my mining power and not really mine but wouldn't I get the same amount on mh/s while mining? Frankly I've just recently learned about mining so your help would be much apreciated. Many thanks!
Bro!, I got a problem with my Radeon 480 nitro Sapphire, When I set it to mine ether or Zcash this starts really good, but minutes after this stops and gets high temperature and my monitor sets bluen and my pc doesnt work anymore. how I can fix this problem?
also,I noticed that When this happens my GPU gets 76°C and my fans just work a 36% this said on the screen of the mining program help me please......
Thanks for the nice trick. This works really well. I was able to get the 30+ mh speed but my GPU temperature started getting high as the GPU clock is set to 1250 and memory clock set to 2200 so I have to lower down the GPU clock to 1100 and memory clock to 2000. These settings gives me 27.7 and GPU temperature stays at 71c if I increase the GPU to 1250 and memory to 2200 the temperature goes near 76c. I tried lowering the GPU volt but it does not work. Any tip to fix temperature. My room temperature is around 30c.
I'm having trouble with the card not being detected. I've read all of the comments in every video I could find regarding the subject. After I flash the modded BIOS into my Hynix Sapphire NITRO+ RX480, it doesn't want to be detected by the miner. It's detected with the original bios.
Would anybody please care to share any inside in regards as to what I could do?
I would really appreciate it.
To add to this my PC wouldn't post after flashing the BIOS (although, it would boot just fine just no display). I spent hours troubleshooting and then felt retarded when I realised I had secure boot enabled in my BIOS.
So, if you are going to flash your GPU BIOS you need to disable secure boot in your BIOS *before* you flash your card. Otherwise, you won't have any video since the card's BIOS is no longer signed by AMD.
To anybody that's having this issue, I've figured it out. I've found the SOLUTION:
After hours of research, I've finally figured out that the latest AMD Drivers have an Unsigned BIOS check.
AMD is basically not allowing anybody to use a modded BIOS. All you have to do is patch it. All the patch does is allow you to bypass the signature check allowing your card to be recognized by Windows again.
1: Install any AMD driver
2: Mod your bios (DO NOT RESTART)
3: Run the patch
4: Restart and Done
After this, your stock Rx 470/480 should jump from around 21/22 to 24/25 mH/s
The patch can be found here:
If this helped anybody at all, I'm glad to help the community.
Tips appreciated :)
Hi Cryptomined, I need help. the windows always freeze, sometimes am driver stop working.

the file created by gpuz is 256K, while the one created by ATI winflash is double the size, even in your example. (only gpuz works for me when it comes to backup) however i get warning about the size being less then 512K. i'd caution people not to flash with wrong size
Hey there, Thanks for the great post. Im running this on a Powercolor RX480 8GB card. After applying the settings to the T it reports unstable speeds. Ranging between about 13MH and 28MH with the mem clock at 2000. Will it stabilize over time or what can i do to combat this?
Hello i am building my miner but i have some issues when i connect the 6 gpus the msi only reads 3, i have tried switching the risers to check if they are working and they are. All my gpus are good, do you know what can be the issue? I do not know what to do :(
If anyone is curious, the problems I ran into was my video card not being detected (solved by using atiwinflash.exe in ATI Flash repo, not ATI Win Flash repo) and getting Radeon Relive drivers working (solved by using the AMD-ATI Pixel Clock Patcher). Also, the XFX RX480 XXX Edition has the tiniest DIP switch I've seen to set BIOS flashing, but it's where you'd expect it (next to 8-pin power.)
I have 3 RX 580's, after flashing all of them with modded firmware as suggested, only one of them work consistently at around 27 mh/s. Another one actually functions slower than the stock firmware so I flashed that one back to stock. The final GPU start off at 27 mh/s but bleeds all the way down to 24 mh/s. Any suggestions guys? Considering they are all identical GPU's I would expect very close results. Thanks guys.
since ive last used linux for mining, im not sure if you can easily overclock and undervolt in linux - there was supposed to be OC ability coming out, but i have not had time to check into it recently. That being said, if you just flash your OC/undervolt, core clock settings and memory timings straight to bios, you dont have to worry about using software to do so. I have seen that linux does produce slightly lower watt consumption compared to windows.
Linux also does not need any fixes for 6 500 series amd gpus to work. so that is a huge plus
I would recommend windows to anyone not familiar with ubuntu/linux. (unless they want to pay me to set up their miners LOL)
I would recommend ubuntu for anyone who doesnt want to use windows.
I know that is not the best answer, but the best I can say is, dual boot them on one rig, try and see for yourself how much you prefer one over the other and use the one you like best.
Yes, you can email me and I can find out your best shipping options (can see if DHL is a better option) , or you can use the store checkout, add items to the shopping cart, and go to the shopping cart. At the bottom of the shopping cart you will see a shipping estimator, change the country to mexico and update. it will show you airmail and EMS rates. I do not suggest airmail for the motherboard, should be EMS or DHL. You can email me at [email protected] and ask me to calculate DHL optioin. Thank you
Biostar, and yes it is made for 6 GPU mining. No other recent boards (other than TB250) are designed for mining (others will work, but they were not designed for mining) These boards and packages are designed and put together for maximum mining efficiency and simplicity:
Hello my friend, I hope you are well, I have a question that concerns me a lot. How much is each 8GB Sapphire Nitro GPU?
I'm about to decide and I need to know because the RIG will have 6 GPU's.
Thanks for the master videos.
hi i have a msi rx 480 and it has an utility to overclocking so I just installed and change just like you at 2200 mhz, and inrease the mhs so I just wondering, why flash the bios if you can use an utility like? that I asume any brand video card has an utility to overclocking right?
I would be worried about flashing it, but you can try the command line with atiflash. Please watch my earlier 48 0and 470 mod videos, im not sure which one I put it in anymore, but the command line method is in one of those.
no, you would want to do something similar to the 470 4G method. Make sure you download the newest polaris bios editor (i have put links in the 570 and 580 mod videos) it can depend on your memory type
Hey Guys, I just bought a RX480 and a motherboard Strix Z270E. I am using claymores dual miner but after a few seconds of mining Windows crashes. I haven't changed the cards BIOS. Can someone help me on this?
I mean that I have just one card running. Tomorrow I'll do the job for the second one. y still cannot reach the 30MHS. When I move the 2000 MHz value to 2200 in Whattman it crashes after a minute of mining.
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. When I started to modify the bios a warning popped up..it said my bios was less than 512 and if I modified it, it will damage my GPU. I moved the switch on the GPU and it still only save a 256 file. I am running a Radeon 470 with the updated drivers. Any ideas? Once again thank you for taking the time to make a great video
maybe unplug the 8pin power and make sure its plugged in all the way, if not fix it, try to change riser, ... if that not fix it... i'm not sure, maybe try to flash back to original and reflash with modded bios, see if that helps. that is all the ideas i have right now
sir, I ran into a problem, one of my rx 480 Gpu clock is not being used completely and result is low hashrate, like it dropped from 30 to 20, I have no idea why, I also tried turning on the crossfire but still it didn't help. any idea ?
Dea Friends ! I have a sapphire rx80 nitro + of 4gb and copying the speed from 1750 to 1900 and 2000. and I got to reach 29 mh / s
But I saw in your youtube video that gives to reach 31 mh / s
you know where i can find the bios for my sapphire rx 480 nitro + 4gb get to reach 31 mh / s?
I just updated the bios on my Sapphire Nitro OC+ with a different bios for the same card with a higher clock. 1306 to 1342 but i wouldn't mind finding one with at least 1400. 1342 is the highest factory OC for 480 out there i think. Where can i get a modded 480 bios with 1400 or more? I'd have done the 580 bios but i've heard not everything works afterwards. Temp/voltage readings and the glow feature. I still might do it some time but i prefer everything working on the card. I played Doom the other day at 1411 for a few hours so it can do the 580 clocks. i'll give the 1450 a go later maybe.
Hello, I have followed your tutorial step by step but I have ran into a problem: I have flashed the bios correctly but my drivers uninstalled after the flashing, I have tried reinstalling and everything goes as usual but they don't install, card seems to be working fine though but it is not shown propertly in device manager (yellow triangle warning) and also I cant mine because I dont have drivers. I would greatly appreaciate if you can help me solve this issue, thanks for this great tutorial!
edit: I have tried reflashing original bios and it works propertly, but as soon as I install the new bios this happens, I only copy the 1750 value into the 2000 cell, nothing more, what could I be doing wrong?
edit2: I have tried uninstalling drivers from device manager and installing latest divers, doesn't work, windows automatically installs drivers and the problem continues.
I have the very graphics card in that video.
I am yet to modify the bios on my cards btw, just got them up and running with EthoS last night so I want to give them 24 hours or so running stock before I play around with them so that I know what the base figures truly are.......
thanks for the info. Really good to know that. I have always been very cautious about undervolting the cards. Max I like to go to is -80mV. (4xx series cards). If I had any 5xx I would certainly reduce this much lower (I assume this is what you refer to with the "2 Clicks" method, ie: in the GPU clocking app)
5xx series is the same as 4xx, but in order to achieve higher clocks, they set the default voltage higher as well. This is where the extra consumption comes from, but you can reduce it for yourself with 2 clicks.
Yes Indeed my friend. I am going to do the calculations based on 480 giving 28mh/s and the 570 giving 25mh/s because from my research those appear the most stable and reliable hash rates for each card. I will also assume that power consumption will be 20% greater on the 5 series. Honestly, I believe the 5 series is going to give better ROI because price is so much smaller for purchasing the card. But I much prefer to have a Nitro+ 4 series rather than a ASUS 5 series. which is causing my indecision about the purchase :/
