Seems there isn't an "image resizing" appendix. As a matter of fact I cann't find any "appendix" in the downloaded pdf.

yes pretty easy to put pictures left and right.  The real question is how can you center a image in Joomla and have the text top and bottom and not wrapped around?

Great information, but i was looking for information on what size to create the images prior to uploading. Any suggestions ?

That's a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question. It's going to be different for everyone. If you are using a template that contains sample images then copy what is there already. If the image is going to sit on a line of its own, fill up the available horizontal space, as long as it is not too tall. If it is going to sit alongside text, consider making it one-third or two-thirds the available width.  There is a helpful browser plugin available for Firefox and Chrome called MeasureIt (sorry - YouTube doesn't allow me to add links here). This lets you drag and drop a ruler on top of a web page to help determine the ideal width t use or to measure an existing image.
