BtR - Mining Ethereum on RX 580 using AMD driver 17.5.1

56 ratings | 15046 views
The latest AMD Radeon driver 17.5.1 did not improve Ethereum mining on the RX 580, but it also didn't break it, so we call this update a "go ahead if you feel like it but it's not necessary" If we have helped you in any way with our videos please consider a crypto currency donation: BTC = 1LqpAr1dT9s5iFKFhXUW6ED5XUB6LRucK4 ETH = 0xb2B72FC97d9DE6B01F943595E16a036D4380D0E0 LTC = LZy4yz5t8Kd4bZTfBhZtc3RoEwCDF88VqP https://www.facebook.com/beyondtheroutine/

How do i do thath? I have 4x aorus r580 8GB, Driver Crimson 17.7, and Afterburner 4.4.0 beta. it even lowers my hashes.

My after burner sliders dont work. I have 6* MSI RX 580 4 GB OC edition any reason why afterburner doesnt work?

hello, i have 3 Sapphire RX 580 nitro+ 8Go but they are stuck at 22MH/s ... I see other people who are around 27MH/s without doing anything so i don't understand ... If you have any advices ... thanks Jim

I have the Aorus gigbyte 8gb and am getting really low hash rates, like 12 -16 MH/s, any ideas as to what's causing this?
Isaiah Wijaya (1 year ago)
Nevermind fixed it! Just started using the MSI afterburner instead of Aorus's graphic engine, idk why but seems it was screwing it up.

rx 580 no mods just stock settings Temps constant around 60C Driver is 17.1.1 Using nice hash

RX 480 or RX 580?
Jorge Ruiz (1 year ago)
Sorry, Could you tell me which cpu do you recomend? I´m thinking of using pentium since it has multithreading but I don´t know how important is CPU to mining the mining rig. thanks.
Jorge Ruiz (1 year ago)
having almost the same price I will go for the pentium. Thanks a lot!!
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
CPU is not important in mining at all, go with the cheapest you can find. For the socket 1151 for Intel, we suggest using Celeron.

I'm dual mining with an old R9 290. And I still get over 26Mh I havn't touched my driver but it's on 15 something hahaha I think i'll just get another couple of oldies for $188each
anyone have a way to set MSI RX580 gaming 8g plus from 27 to 30 Hm/s ?Please..
thank you. I will try

how much ETH muss by mined to get payment (use dual miner and wont send eth to pomoloniex)
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
different pools have different rules, for example, nanopool.org will transfer by default every ~0.2 ethereum

Did someone find how to setup geth and do you actually need ethereum or mist wallet installed on your pc
HiTJAAAA (1 year ago)
So only to download Geth (hopping to get synced) and start miner when geth finishes the update. I appreciate your fast answer and before all thanks for answering and helping the community!
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
You don't actually need ethereum or mist wallet installed on your PC, just need a wallet address to receive ethereum at, unless you are solo mining, at which point you will need to setup geth and wallet on your rig. Ethereum wallet can be set up at most exchanges.

Hey buddy what's the bios update I want to use on the 580?
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
You are not too late, with the rising price of Ethereum, it has drastically decreased the payback time for your mining investment. Although if you have cash and doesn't want to go through the trouble of setting up mining rigs you can also just buy Eth. The major difference is that even after PoS for Ethereum happens, your miner can still mine other cryptocurrency or be sold off to recover portions of your investment.
Xatos1337 (1 year ago)
Beyond The Routine I certainly appreciate you taking your time to respond. You've been a big help. I'm starting to think I may be too late to the Ether mining party (hoping to at least break even now) although I'm going to try and mine as much as I can. Thoughts on how much time we have left? What to mine next with this/our equipment. I'm thinking Monero? Thanks

It is difficult to say if that specific model will get you the max hashrate but you won't know until you try it. I would have personally purchase 1 or 2 to test before buying a bunch, unless of course through my research someone else had great success with a specific model
Xatos1337 (1 year ago)
Beyond The Routine 12 in 2 rigs. 6 each. I just ordered them yesterday and now I'm scared I'm wasting my money. https://m.newegg.com/products/N82E16814137135 These are really the only 580s available. I can't find any data on anything that's not a gaming edition or some special edition. Should I exchange? Do you have more data because I can't find squat it's always the same 3 cards people try, including what you have. I'm freaking out
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
That depends on the motherboard model. Also, how many 580s are you running in a rig?

i have rx580 8gb sapphire nitro + with hynix memory 22mhas how can i get 29+mhash
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
You will have to modify the bios and then adjust the core clock and VRAM clock while decreasing the core voltage
demon39063 (1 year ago)
It's worth mentioning that the 17.5.1 driver does not support more than 5 GPUs. Windows will not boot unless you hack together the 17.5.1 and a 16.x driver. Unfortunately then you can't overclock...but it at least works. I really hope AMD fixes this soon.
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
We did what Cryptomined's video shown in making the hybrid driver, and then uses MSI Afterburner to set -96mV undervoltage, downclocked the GPU core to 1050MHz, and overclocked the memory to 2100MHz, runs stable with 6x RX 580 4GB (GIGABYTE AORUS)
demon39063 (1 year ago)
I was able to via firmware (vbios), but not with any software. Not sure what I could be doing differently -- I've tried all of the methods that I know of to create the hybrid driver. What did you follow?
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
We are able to overclock/underclock using the 17.5.1 after hacking it with 16.9.2 driver, while running 5+ GPUs as of last Sunday.

how many ether you can do with 5 cards 27.xx I'm new on this I hope start mining the next month
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
We use this calculator to determine this amount. Based on current market value, and 100W power consumption and .10 per Wh you could mine 1.09 eth a week for a profit of $94.63 https://www.cryptocompare.com/mining/calculator/eth?HashingPower=135&HashingUnit=MH%2Fs&PowerConsumption=100&CostPerkWh=0.10

Does AMD only provide binary drivers for the RX5xx on Linux????
27,3 :)))) it's funny. My rx480 can do 29.5-29.9 stable working
Meme Bae (1 year ago)
This setting seems to push the gpu to the max while mantaining a reasonable power consumption
Meme Bae (1 year ago)
Comfirm. Anoraks memshift mod and the same settings work on my new Gigabyte G1 Gaming RX 470 4GB. Stable 28.8 mHs Hynix mem

that's great, that's where they should be at if you have the right GPU
my gpu card 480 rx 30-31 mhs))

Hi, a few questions, does this card has the bois modified? or it is original bios? my 580 msi radeon rx original out of the box does 24.6.., Also do you have a video how to secure modify the bios? and do you usually modify the cards one by one or all together? thank you
Cryptomined (1 year ago)
:)
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
Your msi RX 580 will likely be able to do between 29-31Mh/s. It all really comes down the which card you get. This AORUS RX 580 4GB card is bios modified. We are working on publishing a video showing how to mod your bios, but do a search on YouTube and other channels have done some great how to videos on modding bios for mining.
Yaroslav K (1 year ago)
that's really bad. so waiting for new 580/570 and what we get is just 27Mh... Ye I understand that you've got horrible aoros, but still even brand cards can't beat rx 4** series. i ordered 20 570 and don't know what tot expect ))
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
you should pop one in and run a check to see how fast you can get it to mine. Chances are you should be able to get to 25-28 MH/s without much trouble, but to get to the 29-31 range, you gotta have the right GPS. Which model did you get? If it was the reference design one with the single blower fan, you might get lucky.
Xatos1337 (1 year ago)
Beyond The Routine I just bought 12 cards... MSI RX 580. They aren't gamer edition though. Damnit should I exchange them now? Are you sure the "standard" ones can't achieve the same hash rates?
Yaroslav K (1 year ago)
nitro+ hope samsung memory. tired ot my elpida rx 470 system freezes
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
If you ordered Sapphire Nitro+, msi gaming or gaming X, or XFX GTR series, then you should be able to get decent hashrate, but to get the power consumption down (generally 500 series consume more power at the same settings as the 400 series), you will need to undervolt the core to somewhere between 850-900mA.
:)
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
We usually get about 31Mh/s on our MSI, Sapphire and XFX cards, both RX 480 and RX 580. The AORUS RX 580 4GB cards are just horrible, stock bios hashrate was only 22Mh/s. We have another video in which we said we would choose RX 480 over RX 580 because of various issues, like driver, higher power consumption.
Jeremy Giordano (1 year ago)
Are you getting 27.3 on the stock bios?
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
that's why we do our videos, to provide information from our testing so people can make better purchasing decisions.
jeliman13 (1 year ago)
that suck 22Mh/s stock :( I would send these cards back and buy 470s
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
No, they are with modded bios. We had mentioned in another video that the AORUS RX 580 4GB edition are not great mining cards. In fact, the stock hashrate was only 22Mh/s.
jeliman13 (1 year ago)
yay.. you have 27.x Mh/s on 580s? I can do that on 470 4gb with modded BIOS. I would recommend to do that 2.
Beyond The Routine (1 year ago)
The AORUS RX 580 4GB are not the best when it comes to mining, the most you will get out of them would be around 28Mh/s if you push them real hard. There are other RX 580s with much better hashrate, like the MSI Gaming X and the Sapphire Nitro+. I thought we said it pretty clear in our other video...but yes there are much better cards for mining
