How do you get it to show the "read more" rather than the entire article?

Hi, Sorry for the late reply, work has been crazy. to get the read more button to work, open your article from the Administrator. below the editor there are some buttons. Place the cursor where you would like to see the Read more button in  the Article's text and the click the Read more button beneath the editor. It will display a thick grey line. Just save and close the article and you'll then see your read more button. Check this tutorial out. http://youtu.be/KveYxjgtPq0
