What Do Hedge Funds Think of Technical Analysis?

345 ratings | 18812 views
What do hedge funds think of technical analysis? Corvin Codirla, ex-hedge fund manager and independent traders comments. Do you need to be good at maths to make money trading? Why aren't economists wealthy / successful investors? Or are they? Some of them love it and some of them hate it. It also depends what you mean by technical analysis. If technical analysis means optically looking at charts and looking for patterns like head and shoulders..etc it becomes very difficult to test. If something cannot be written down in a set of rules, then it is not useful. Others will argue that technical analysis is more of an art than a science. Knowing maths doesn't necessarily make you smart.

I like numbers and the use of quantitative analysis. These are useful for me to build up confidence. There is a huge amount of information each day, and knowing how to screen the useful from the crabs is important. Being good at maths is an edge. Smart guys may not make big money, because they are too smart but are not persistent. If I know that my judgment is correct, but the stock prices go down and cause me losses, I would not give up too soon. When the market has undergone corrections, the prices would go up again and I would add more. Look forward, forget the past and learn lessons from the failures!

he just assumed intelligent ppl self-reflect in a detrimental way... u can be intelligent and have perseverance. self-reflection is good. why is he confusing it with self-destruction? also, he just said smart ppl are inflexible and static like a rock... does he know what smart and intelligent actually means? last, why did he just believe her statement that smart ppl are way poorer than dumb ppl? then he went on to actually say smart ppl sabotage themselves. that's clearly wrong. if smart ppl sabotage themselves, there would be no science, no electricity, no internet, etc. obviously smart ppl are actually successful in what they do. he seemed to be talking about poor smart ppl specifically...

This guy isn't only very articulate, he's clearly weathered some storms and had many life experiences. I'm sure it was a hard path but his wisdom is the valuable result.

Clear answer:Technical analysis is = zero Fundamental analysis and market correlation and supply and demand and order flow that's what matters.

If you are not at that specifically point in which you've been there and done that, you will never understand how true is everything he says.
